Years ago I worked as a gunsmith. I guy brought me his model 170 savage saying it wouldn't fire. I checked it, it wouldn't fire. I was thinking crud had built up behind the fireing pin and proceeded to disassemble to clean it out. When I got it apart the firing pin was bent and dragging on the side of the firing pin hole. The only explination I can think of is excessive dry firing caused the pin to streech, then it was fired and the reduced travel caused the pin to bend. I've straightend the pin, though I haven't rehardened it yet. (I also ordered a new firing pin.)
Now the questions:
1) What is the correct length for this firing pin? I've gone through all my old stuff and I cannot find it anywhere.
2) If I cannot find the proper length then we go back to partrussion length. With the firing pin (It's a 2 Peice) in the forward postion, hammer at rest against the pin, how much pin should project from the bolt face?
