I know that the Italian government introduced new laws to tackle the problem of football hooliganism, after the death of the Italian policeman due to violence, but obviously it has not worked.

What else can they do?

How do you think Fifa will react?

I don't want to fan the flames of hatred but if it had happened in England, we would have been punished heavily with fines and bans.

Sensible answers only please, if you want to hurl abuse, then please go and do it somewhere else.

Thank you

Its really sad that death has to be the wake up call sometimes. This isn't the first time this has happened, but with so many accidents in such a short period of time, its clear this hoolaganism problem in Italy is growing more and more serious. I agree with what the third user says, the police officer shouldn't have even been with a gun in the first place. Its horrendous. He was trying to break up the brawl between the Juventus and Lazio fans, but surely they could have used some other methods? Even last season, at the Olimpico, the police officers treated the Man Utd fans brutally. I had hoped that event would have been the last time we would hear of such a thing, unfortunately thought it hasn't been. Its because of that policeman's carelessness that an innocent life has been lost.

I really think that the Italian Government is trying to do as much as they can to solve these problems. Heavy fines and bans should be introduced, and hopefully it will be much more effective then playing behind closed doors. I have doubts though. I think that in the end, its the fans themselves that have to know when they've crossed the line. I think that the problem is some of the fans in Italy, they take these team rivalries too seriously. I mean we're human, and football should not be worth losing an innocent life over.

First Question, why are the policement threatening with guns, and shooting them, if it was a tranquiliser or tear gas, i would understand, but policemen should know that playin with guns is really dangerous. FIFA might step in and take action, but I think some more stadium sanctions must be introduced. I am feeling very sorry for that soul, wether he was a hooligan or not, no one has the right to kill anyone. If this happened in England, Arrests, bans, etc indeed. Arrests and life bans should be imposed, but never should they bring out a gun

What is this world coming to. Sure he killed someone by accident, but a death is a death.

There was a similar incident here in Greece!some fans from one team, were beating up other fans that supported another team, the result?a young man was beaten to death!!!
Beaten to death, because he happened to support an opposing team and he happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time!!
Who is responsible?
The police? How can they control hundreds of fans that are everywhere?
The football federation? This happened far from the football grounds!
When the police use teargas or other measures, people yell"police brutality"
I agree that there should be some measures taken!
1.teams should be banned when their fans harm fans from opposite teams!
2.i think what would work is,if a team has fans that are violent and commit acts of violence, then they should be banned from playing a whole year!!
this i think would solve the problem!but sadly, they would never do this, cause major $$$$ is involved, and many will lose $millions!!

I totally agree with you that it has to be stopped, but doesn't matter what the Italian government does it never will stop..hooliganism is everywhere England, France, Italy etc...so why bring it up only when it happens in Italy?
May the Lazio fan rest in peace!

Seriously, it's horrific that the violence has escalated to such a degree. I think that in order to control hooliganism, the Italian police need to place stricter penalties on those who instigate. People need to be taught that if they continue with all the violence then they'll have a ridiculously high fine, be imprisoned, or something of the like to put an end to the violence.

It's really sad! This sport was meant to bring us together not do such things. It shouldn't cause a life to support another team! We all have opinions, we should respect that. I know we talk about players and teams but I don't think we would take it that far. The sad thing is this happens all the time, it just doesn't get to the media!

May he R.I.P

Something needs to be done , i only hope it doesnt take something like The hillsborough disater, no one football fan or not wants to see anyhting as horffic as that , people should be able to go to a football match and enjoy themselves, not worrying about being actacked stabbed and killed , by police or fans

It was the police officers mistake to use the gun. C'mon, they know the consequences.
