Each team in the chase earns at least $1 million from the season-ending point fund. Last year, Jimmie Johnson earned $6.8 million for the championship, Kenseth $2.8 million for 2nd, Hamlin $2.2 million for 3rd and it trickled down from there to Kyle Busch earning $1.26 million for 10th. The points payouts will be similar this season, just with 12 drivers earning at least $1 million.
Also, with the expansion of the chase field to 12 drivers the $1 million bonus to the first driver outside the chase was eliminated.
