A-Rod has never cheated. The play in Toronto was legal and if their career minor league 3B wasn't professional enough to catch the ball HE should be considered "bush league". Even little leaguers have no problem making that play w/ players yelling at them.
Giambi admitted to steriod use. Makes 60-70% of what A-Rod makes, doesn't produce half to a third as much as A-Rod, and last time I checked doesn't have any rings either.
So where's the logic in that smart guys?

And to anyone who will say the words "team player" Giambi isn't that either. Not to mention his production dropped after he signed his massive contract while A-Rod still produced.

Yea it just seems everyone wants to jump on the "Hate A-Rod" bandwagon instead of really thinking about it. People are lazy with their brains today.

kbenson55 I like how you brought up the postseason stats. They are just slightly below his career #'s but people today are all about "what have you done for me lately" and forget that taking 2 or 3 postseasons don't make a career out of you. Bonds was ridiculed for his poor postseason #'s until he had that magic World Series run. It's only going to take 1 good postseason for people to forget about A-Rod's woes.

Chipmaker: I've noticed in all of your answer you split hairs, avoided topics, and use long-winded answers to woo people into thinking you know what your talking about. No doubt you always have a way of bringing up nice stats and #'s, but you pick and choose which #'s and how you want to use them. Giambi's contract was 7 years/120 Mill. That's an average of 17Mil per year. At A-Rods 25Mil per year average Giambi would be making 68% of A-Rod's contract. Not 93%. This is one example of how you skate around the facts w/ your flashy numbers and miss the entire point. A 2nd example of this is while Giambi has not "specifically" admitting to "steroids" we all know for a fact he did and your hashing WAY too much on specifics. To further prove my point check out this link: Giambi had the word "steroid" purpusefully removed from his contract w/ the Yankees. Now why would that be Mr. Know It All?

No one complained about A-Rod til Texas gave him the fat contract. That contract just put a bullseye on his back for any sort of criticism, deserved or not.
Any way that jealous people can take a shot at A-Rod they will take it, even when it's something really minor compared to say, Giambi's and others' steriod use.
My main beef with people hating A-Rod for what he was GIVEN by Texas is that if they were in the same situation they could not say with a straight, honest face that they would turn that kind of money down themselves in the same situation. No one would! You're a LIAR if you say you wouldn't.
Anyway, I agree that there is no logic in the treatment of A-Rod versus the treatment of players that have done far worse things on and off the baseball field.

Where, exactly, and I do mean this as a sincere request, has Giambi admitted IN PUBLIC to having used steroids?
He has not, the coward. He apologized for, um, er, something, and later said that many players used "that stuff", but he has scrupulously avoided the S-word. I DARE you to find a first-person quotation wherein he acknowledges using specific, identified substances or a class thereof. I'll put MONEY on it.
HGHiambi has danced around the topic and let the public fill in the blanks for him. Now, I won't doubt he has valid, probably legal, reasons for doing this, but the point remains -- he hasn't admitted anything meaningful or specific in public.
For 2007, by the USA Today database, Giambi actually got paid more than Rodriguez, $23.4M to $22.7M. Well, ARod has such a complex contract that there are a number of ways to wring out his annual pay, but even going by the straight $25.2M/annum, Giambi would be right behind, pulling about 93% of Alex' income. A specific number isn't critical, but it's a lot higher than 70%.
But why is ARod more despised? Well, where's the fun in kicking the #2 guy? No one ever rips on Burger King because McDonald's is a bigger, more familiar target. The vice president never takes the heat that the prez does (even when the incumbent so richly deserves all of it, and more). There's never a mob with torches and pitchforks looking to lynch Public Enemy #2 (even if PE#2 is said vice president).
ARod gets the biggest paycheck. ARod gets the hate.
-----
Ed: Well, yes, that's called building an argument. Hey, look, you just used real numbers to work out your 68% figure for Giambi:Rodriguez ratio, and y'know, that's a much better factoid than some squishy "60-70%" range. Wasn't so hard, was it? YOU SHOWED YOUR BASIS, and I really am good with that. (It's a weak basis, because it presumes equal payouts per season, and that isn't the case for either player, though ARod's deal was a lot more linear than Giambi's is. But it is A basis, and I thank you for that.)
As for Giambi not admitting anything in public, (1) I'm right about this (what he did say in the leaked grand jury testimony was not in public), (2) I have no doubts that there were seasons wherein he was internally drowning in Chemicals X, and (3) this really is important, that he has NOT admitted anything specific in public, and people should STOP filling in the blanks for him. He is no hero, he certainly hasn't come clean, and to me he doesn't yet get off the hook, if ever. I also don't really CARE about whatever PEDs he may have used, but he does not, should not, get to leap from Phase 1 ("collect underpants") to Phase 3 ("profit") without spelling out what happens in Phase 2. (For those who never saw that ep of South Park, substitute "get caught being naughty" for Phase 1 and "exoneration" in Phase 3. Here Phase 2 should be "public confession with sincere contrition" and that hasn't yet happened.)
Finally, I don't know it all. That's why I look things up.
Your posts are increasingly becoming not worth reading, because the vitriol tends to dominate.

Plain and simple, A-Rod comes off as a primadonna. Additionally, he seems about as sincere as a slice of stale bread. On top of that making the money he does naturally incurs wrath - especially when you seem to be an insincere primadonna.
As far as the play in Toronto, it WAS bush league, just like the time in the playoff game against Boston when he smacked the ball out of the fielder's glove. If yelling at an infielder trying to distract him isn't a bush league play, how come players don't do it all the time? It's not like A-Rod is this genius who just figured out this amazing new play. Other players don't do it because it's a cheap, utterly unprofessional thing to do.
I don't know why Giambi seems to get a free pass because, in my opinion, he's no prize either.

their pitching aint comparable to it used to. Rivera and Mussina are the pitchers who've shown themselves as large gamers yet then u have R. Johnson who's getting older and is decling each year. Their bullpen isnt do a lot help the two, additionally the beginning pitching has too many issues. the superb pitching team interior the Al East are the Jays merely while healthful. The crimson Sox pitching team are the superb commonplace yet Beckett supplies to many homeruns and schilling is like Johnson. The Yankees have the superb offence interior the AL yet offence can merely carry u.s. some distance and thats why yankees at the instant are not prevailing proper now

The only people here who have come to absolutely despise Rodriguez are Yankee fans.
So, the easy answer is that Giambi is off the hook simply because he is still a Yankee.
