Just watched the Holyfield/Foreman fight again. Evander can thank the God he believes in that it was a 41 year old, and slower Foreman that he fought.
The courage that Foreman showed in that fight, standing toe-to-toe with a 29 year old, still unbeaten Holyfield, was superhuman. I remember watching it at the time and thinking that he had redeemed himself for the loss to Ali with his courageous performance.
I also remember having a conversation with Buddy McGirt one day (he's a real student of the game), discussing Holyfield. He told me that it was Evander's performance against a still very dangerous Michael Dokes, that convinced him that Holyfield would win the heavyweight title. I agreed with him. I always knew Holyfield would be one of the greats.
Forget the Moorer fight, the fact that grandfather George could go 12 highly competitive rounds with a young Holyfield completely redeemed him for the loss in Africa, in my opinion.
