Just watched the Holyfield/Foreman fight again. Evander can thank the God he believes in that it was a 41 year old, and slower Foreman that he fought.

The courage that Foreman showed in that fight, standing toe-to-toe with a 29 year old, still unbeaten Holyfield, was superhuman. I remember watching it at the time and thinking that he had redeemed himself for the loss to Ali with his courageous performance.

I also remember having a conversation with Buddy McGirt one day (he's a real student of the game), discussing Holyfield. He told me that it was Evander's performance against a still very dangerous Michael Dokes, that convinced him that Holyfield would win the heavyweight title. I agreed with him. I always knew Holyfield would be one of the greats.

Forget the Moorer fight, the fact that grandfather George could go 12 highly competitive rounds with a young Holyfield completely redeemed him for the loss in Africa, in my opinion.

I agree with you . I have the dvd of that fight and watched it a few times. He may have lost the match but he won the hearts of the fans.

I don't think Foreman has to redeem himself for that Ali fight. That was Foreman against Zaire. But it did take stainless steel guts to get in there and mix it up with a boxer of Holyfield's caliber, which was by the way top quality.

Foreman showed a lot of guts that night and rocked Holyfield numerous times(both fighters have cast iron b*lls). Redemption for Zaire? I don't know about that Brad. That's a tough call in my opinion. I think that fight is one of those things that Foreman had to finally deal with and he himself admits it took years to get over.

I don't know about redemption for Zaire. George was a completely different person back then. His real redemption came from above, and that propelled him to have several good showings in later years. I just loved the way he always stood up in between rounds!

No, it was a conspiracy! I always wondered what happened to Foreman between 75 and 94 though. I hope to get best answer since on one else responded.
