I've been atheist ever since I grew up and matured. I feel like I was brainwashed my entire childhood with Christianity/religion. I want to join this church simply because it makes sense to me and I agree with their philosophies, but I don't know how everyone that is close to me is going to react.

The definition of faith: firm belief in which there is no proof.
THERE YOU GO. THERE IS NO PROOF THAT JESUS EXISTED.
happy? but that's why it's called faith. To death to all the ''so called christians'' that uses God's name in vain such as Bush and the roman catholic church. but i just want you atheists to know that there are christians who are good and that try to pursue a life without sinning. most of the teachings in the Bible are morally correct. I dont understand why you criticize us christians when it is OUR lives and we DO have something thats called FAITH. there is nothing bad or horrible that's said in the bible. I've never seen a passage in it that tells us to KILL others. then why do you criticize us.

Would you also please tell me what the song is saying about Shiva?

(I just looked this up because someone asked a question that mentioned "shamboo"... which Googled alternatively as "shambho"... and I found this YouTube video.)

I am an Atheist and, although I have no problem with Christians or other religious people being religious on their own, I REALLY do not appriciate it when someone repeatedly tries to push their beliefs on me, even after being told that I'm not interested... and even after me thoroughly explaining why I do not agree with their nonsense.

I don't want to be rude, but I feel like I've already made every civilized attempt to... y'know... get rid of 'em. Spring semester starts soon and I just keep thinking "Oh man, what if I get stuck in a class with one of them?!" Does anyone have any suggestions for how to deal with this?

Currently I am a scientist who I suppose is a believer in hybrid religions (try to refrain from the hell jokes).

I was once Buddhist as a child and then decided to try and find the "correct" religion in the world later on only to come up short everywhere. It was then I saw that every religion had its ups and downfalls and only through taking what essentially helped you from each bucket and leaving behind the dead weights could you move more comfortably and freely through life. It is essentially Jeet Kune Do but for religion. I have also realized that in sides to pick science is best for me because science is not fixed upon a single hill, it moves wherever the evidence is and wherever it may come from (so one day, scientists might beleive in God or be able to totally disprove it).

Why do the Islamic women in Afganistan allow the men to treat them the way that they do?
The public flogging if their ankles show?
A major beating if they are raped?

Is it because of lack of education and the inability to financially support themselves?

I never understood this.......why not fight back?

Quran 8:67 “it is not for any prophet to have captives until he hath made slaughter in the land. http://cwis.usc.edu/dept/msa/quran/008.qmt.html

As you can see in the above verse (aya), the Quran gives Islamic prophets instruction about when it is permissible to take prisoners. However, since the Quran was revealed by Muhammad, and the Quran gives instruction to "any prophet", then obviously the Quran is saying there will be more prophets after Muhammad.

Put it another way. Why would Allah have Muhammad reveal this aya about captives? Who is it for? The verse is for "prophets" right? So there must be prophets after Muhammad that the Quran finds necessary to instruct about future Islamic massacres and when prisoners are to be taken.

There can be no doubt. The Quran clearly asserts, in this aya, that there will be other prophets after Muhammad...maybe Joseph Smith or Tom Cruise.

2:173 He has forbidden to you only carrion, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that over which any name other than God's has been invoked; [139] but if one is driven by necessity - neither coveting it nor exceeding his immediate need -no sin shall be upon him: for, behold, God is much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace.

5:3 FORBIDDEN to you is carrion, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that over which any name other than God's has been invoked, [7] and the animal that has been strangled, or beaten to death, or killed by a fall, or gored to death, or savaged by a beast of prey, save that which you [yourselves] may have slaughtered while it was still alive; and [forbidden to you is] all that has been slaughtered on idolatrous altars. [8] And [you are forbidden] to seek to learn through divination what the future may hold in store for you: [9] this is sinful conduct. Today, those who , are bent on denying the truth have lost all hope of [your ever forsaking] your religion: do no

Do you feel that those who convert to a religion are less intelligent than those who do not? It’s just the vibe I receive: “I’m too smart to believe in God. I have my science.” I get responses like that all of the time.... I am not barking at anyone atheist out there I just want it clarified whether or not that is how you really feel about those who are religious. If you do feel this way, what do you think of the scientists who use to be atheist and converted to Christianity?

Just a request: please avoid giving harsh answers. I am asking for clarification....not a series of angry statements...

On this planet: snakes don't talk, rabbits are not ruminants, insects do not have 4 legs, the sun does not stand still, mammals do not survive 3 days in the stomach of another living animal, and humans do not walk on liquid water. So where is it from?
