Why can something like a bristlecone pine live for 5000 years but not forever?

What do you think causes it?

So, I admit that I am not a religious person. I have heard so many say, and truely belive that the Bible is the word of God. How can this be? Is it not a translation of a translation of a translation of what someone said they heard God tell them? Isn't is possible that alot got lost in translation? Or, worse, that it came from some one who just heard voices? These days wouldn't a person who declared that be put on medication? Please don't be affended here. I don't mean it that way at all.. just some thoughts that I have had for a while and would like to get others opinions.

With the daily "brawls" occurring on R+S, I had myself wondering what the very first day of YA in the R+S section was like.

Has anybody been here long enough to say what the first day was like? If you haven't been here that long, what do you think the first day was like? Do you think that there were more legitimate questions, or do you think that there were more questions that mocked other people's beliefs?

The Bible has made several prophetic statements that astound me however I wonder how it effects other Christian and non-Christain alike, other faiths etc.

Primarily the (below) statement on how in the last days there will be "an increase in knowledge". We are deemed by the media as in the "information age" in our current times.

Do you feel this is a legitimate prophecy and why, if you do not please tell me why, what do you feel about the statement.

Daniel 12

2.And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever
4. But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and “knowledge shall be increased." (King James version)

Hypocrisy, routine, disenchanted, empty feelings? Who feels like they have reached a dead end on the narrow road? Points go to most touching story. And for all you haters out there, yes I am born again, and I go to a Christian college. I just want to hear the stories of people who feel like they have been hurt by religion. Here is your chance, I am listening with an open mind, and I am not one of those Bible beating thumpers trying to force religion on you. I just want to know why it went sour for you.

I was emerged which I believe is the proper way 'cause when you come out of the water, you're a new person. Some churches just use holy water to make the sign of the cross on the forehead, others pour water over the head. Which way do you believe is the proper way to be baptized? Should a person be baptized at birth and again as an adult?

Specifically I'm referring to their baby Jesus, who has a mustache. Plus he's wearing an elf suit. That ain't right. As St. Paul would say, "Brethren, such things ought not to be."

Yeah, but how do I tell our neighbors tactfully --
And they believe in god and all that stuff.

What would be your best approach?

Need the definition? THEORY- a theory is a mathematical or logical explanation, or a testable model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation.

Creationism does not in any way qualify as a theory, since it cannot be tested and has absolutely no verifiable evidence. Not to mention that an invisible guy that nobody has ever seen poofing it out of nothing isn't exactly the apex of logical thought.

I have found a few posts about evolution and some have said that there is proof of evolution, but they choose to ignore it because of their religious beliefs. Why do some people choose to be ignorant about the scientific work done on evolution? It is argued that it can never be proved, but neither can devine creation. Is it possible to belive in both?

Why don't people get that it doesn't matter how good you are or how nice a person you are on earth. The only way to "get into heaven" is to trust in Jesus and be sorry for your sins. It's impossible to be good enough for god to "let you in" because it's all about repentance. I don't see why people say things like " I believe in Jesus but I'm not sure if I am good enough to get into heaven. Im a drug addict and I killed 18,000 people." And another thing is purgatory. I totally respect catholicism but does the Bible ever mention purgatory? and I am not qualified with enough with information to be asking this but isn't worshipping the pope idolatry? God I sound like a brat. So sorry people. Another question is did Adam and Eve have belly buttons? since they never had umbilical cords and all....
And whats the big difference between the baptist and e-free churches? I've been a member at both of those and the lutheran church. so have fun answering my many questions people. luv ya! <3 MarciQ

There's a possibility of me moving to the States for some months. My American friends told me those who have travelled are very much different to those who haven't(in the States), so I shouldn't expect to conduct prayers "casually" like I do in England. They also said I should be prepared for negative remarks. So far, I have no problems being a Muslim in England. May be this is just me, or media influence is truly huge in the States?I heard Oprah showing disapproval when one suggested learning Islam to create understanding. Oprah's words are listened by American women. If this is true, then...I won't have female friends when I'm there.

I cannot tell you how many opinions I have read that have no basis in the Bible at all! Most people are just shooting from the hip as if their mind is all they need to discern spiritual things.

I've seen lots of Christians believe that God modified man from ape, and such, so why don't others?

Is there some sort of offensive image of God (though he has no appearance) that would mean he's any less of a being if he was an ape? Or even a fish?

Why, if God is amazing anyway, could he not be a fish?

Hi
I've just finished reading a piece in the paper, I won't bore you with the full story but could you stand there and watch a loved one even a child die for the sake of a simple tranfusion, my oppinion is...any "faith" that condones this is wrong and should be outlawed, if you believe that God gave life, what right have you not to help preserve it?. there are about 6.5 million Jehovah's Witnesess in the world and this is their faith, they won't even save their own blood to help save life.
Ray. West York's. U.K.

I once asked a Jehovah's witness in for a chat, as we sat at the table I said...'right what happens now?'..'I haven't a clue' he said, 'I've never got this far before'. (watch this space, 6.5 million violation orders due)

Today in church the pastor said he had a message from God and it was for a young person around my cousins age, that is going through some rough times. He described her situation to a T.

Any way the pastor lets my cousin know she's going to be Ok and that she's having a hard time because the devil is trying hard to get her but she was going to make it because God's looking out for her. (I know she will)

We go to another room to get some more prayer for her to make things easier on her and make her feel better in private, and then I look to the floor and see a face in the carpet. Its not a happy face... it looked peeved and I think I saw horns. I doubt I'm hallucinating because I checked a bunch of times and it was still there.

Not that I didn't take the pastor seriously before but I'm scared to for her now crap now.

If you could pray for her; that she stays safe, reunite with her mom and siblings, and lead a blessed life we'd appreciate it

Evolution teaches us we are just animals.
We have NO SOUL!!!!!!!
S o whats the bigg deal if some mother kills her fetus.
Do you really think a 9 month old fetus is a person?
NO-NO-NO...
We arent a person until we exit the uterus.
And so what if it feels a little pain?
Its my body... and no-one is gonna tell me that i have to deliver a fetus.
What about my pain.
We have the right to control life and death, not some skydaddy.
And for your information christians...
We came about from non-life.
A lightening bolt struck a rock billions of years ago causing the first ameba to life.
So whats your excuse...

Clearly the only "logical" choice is to be an atheist.

The ONLY theory about how the world came into being is that there was a spontaneous explosion that came from NOWHERE and that sub-atomic particles created themselves.

Clearly, all life on earth is just an accident. The eye formed from nothing, etc.

Yes, nothing gives me a warmer feeling in my heart to know when I die, I will cease to exist FOREVER and that life has no point.

Do you agree?
