I know that there are heaven and hell. Purgatory doesn't exist according to the Bible, it was just made up in the Middle Ages as a scam for the Catholic Church to make money. Basically I have to believe in God and Jesus and do what God says to get into heaven. If I live as a "sinner" then Satan gets me and I'm going to hell. First off, if I live a moral and honest life (albeit not believing in God/Bible/Jesus) where am I going? If I am still going to hell, then I don't want to go to heaven if God rejects good people on the basis that they didn't believe his mumbo-jumbo (for which he offers scant proof). So assuming I'm going to hell, will Satan torture me forever? Why? What does he have to gain. Why can't there be a place for everyone else to go who is honest and moral, but doesn't believe in God where we can just chill and not be tortured or have to follow archaic rules?

Why did it take god a half a day to make all the billions of stars, quaasars, black holes, supernovas, moons, planets, asteroid belts. And a full day to make humans?

Any ideas? I think getting the skin just right must be a lot more difficult than it appears.

ever star someone on the opposite side of the faith fence because you honesty liked their question, answered it honestly yourself and then had them add details where they call you names for doing it? FRUSTRATING!

i have seen a lot of questions about whether it's ok for certain religions to own dogs, or if pets have a soul, rainbow bridge, etc.. i was just wanting to conduct an unbiased, non judgmental poll for all here. i am interested to know if religion has any bearing on the pets we keep or not.

1) what religion are you?

2) what type pets do you have and how many of each?

3) does your religion (or lack thereof) have anything to do with the fact that you do or do not have pets?

as for me:
1) atheist
2) 2 dogs, 2 cats
3) yes, because i believe this is the only life we have and animals deserve a good life too, i adopted pets from the shelter to give them as much happiness as possible before they die. they make my life better too, you can never have too much unconditional love!

This sounds kind of sick, but who knows, do you think it is possible that god is so almighty and then one day he said, ok it's rapture time. Time to pick up the jews? Or even did god think the jews got so unreligious that he sent someone like Hitler to teach them a lesson? Think about it, if god was really almighty, can something happen without meaning? And if so, Hitler might be in heaven, when he did something what is predestined in god's plan! No mainstream answers plz! We want creative thinking.

I know two questions in one day. I'm fascinated with the faith. I think when I do figure out what part of paganism is for me, it will be like a rebirth, I've been waiting for. So needless to say, I've felt better about my life, myself, since reading the texts online. Its almost Christmas, and I want to put on my Christmas list, some of the books that have been recommended to me about learning more about paganism. I just don't think my family will be accepting. Christianity is a great religion, but its not for me. I was very lost in that religion, and didn't know if life was worth living. I found myself in tarot card readings and astrology and such. I also have found myself since I've embraced my mixed heritage, especially the Native American in me. So, I was wondering how do I tell my parents about this? I really want to put the books on my list, so my dad can order them online and get a good deal. I just don't think they will except it. They are convinced its evil. Witches are evil.

Did any of you find that when you left your religion, other people looked down on you? Leaving my religion was a difficult thing to do and it wasn't easy,I suffered a lot, but in the end it was best for me to cut all ties with it(for the sake of my mental health amongst other things).I felt upset at it and disappointed,if anything I was the victim,I realise now that Im not doing ANYTHING WRONG by leaving my religion behind. I've been much happier since. I hate how people assume that you leave so you can drink alcohol, have careless sex, smoke weed,etc- I dont do any of those things. It annoys me that people think because someone isnt religious that they dont have any morals. Very ignorant assumption if you ask me.

Don't they claim that the non believers and those that don't believe that the pope is the Vicar Of Christ are heretics? Weren't heretics put to death for their beliefs until not all that long ago? Wasn't this the cause of millions of deaths in the last 1700 years? Is this really all that different from what we're seeing today with islam? Which the papacy invented around the 7th century to control the arabs, but it backfired on them.

I am not a violent person and would hesitate to swat a fly but I do know that there are times that violence and even killing is necessary. What did Jesus say about warfare? What were his instructions on how we are suppose to conduct ourselves if we find ourselves in armed conflict?

I am not talking about when a young person dies, but when an old person dies. Especially when they are in their 70s-90s. Some people are just distraught that their loved one died. As if they were going to live forever. I can understand crying or knowing that you are going to miss them, but to act shocked and dismayed is silly.

I say move over, you had your chance at this world, it is someone else's turn.

Here's my question, if the bible was written 3500 years ago, how come there is no proof of any of it? Yet, Egyptian history is older and there's much more proof of it. Why is that? Proof isn't "Look around you " or "the bible says so"

Two days ago I learned that two fo my friends killed themselves three months ago. I felt as if they'd basically disappeared of the face of the earth; no one told me what happened, because everyone was afraid I'd be hurt. I guess no one realized that not KNOWING what happened to them for three months was bad enough.

Just a couple of minutes ago, I found out that another friend of mine just killed himself today.

Life officially and completely sucks.

Do you ever feel this way? Like things couldn't get any worse, then they do?

It's for a group project. I believe (not so sure) Judaism was the first religion that is credited for monotheism, but we have to do a venn diagram for Judaism , Islam, and Christianity. My group members are saying that monotheism stems for all three of them, but I thought that Islam and Christianity adopted monotheism from Judaism. I'm little unsure of what to put down and exactly where. By the way, this project is about contributions made by those three religion to both the world and other religion. So, technically, the more accurate question would be did all three religions contribute monotheism to today's world? Any ideas?
