they have a set of beliefs about god and proselytize that belief to others and try and convert people to their belief system?

Isn't it even more annoying when Atheists say "Atheism is the absence of religion" even though that isn't what Atheism means?

Yeah, hi. I'm an atheist. Atheism isn't a religion. There isn't an atheists bible, and there are no guidelines for atheism. Atheists have many different beliefs about god, religion, spirituality, etc. Also, most atheists don't care what you are, just as long as you don't try to force your beliefs on them.

Atheism is the lack of belief in god. Most religions center around a god/gods.

You shouldn't ever speak. It's dumbs the world.

So, religion pretty well means a belief in a deity. Then what does atheism mean, but no belief in a deity, or belief in no deity? Sorry, But I have no religion, and no other atheists I know do either. to have a religion, there would have to be some of us meeting regularly to celebrate such religion, and we just don't do that. Sorry, atheism is NOT a religion, its a LACK of a religion. You christians can categorize it any way your ignorant little minds want, but the facts stand. atheism is a lack of religion, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and by the way, we don't proselytize. we don't have to, because we don't want to brainwsh you.

Then what is absence of a religion, I may ask?

Anyway, it isn't enough of a religion where we are organized, have places to meet, have a united opinion about anything but our disbelief in God (which, most religions have a bit more than a belief in a god to define them, but, whatever), or where we can go to door to door handing out atheism pamphlets or shouting about atheism on the street corners without having death threats shouted back.

If atheism is a religion, we truly drew the short straw on that one...

You know what's really, *really* annoying?
When people make up facts and evidence to support their incorrect hypothesis.
Your definition of atheism doesn't actually change the true definition of atheism - a lack of belief in deities. We do not have any "set" beliefs and we don't try to convert people. We just want people to think critically, on their own. Whatever conclusions they draw from that thinking are fine with us.

I like these answers:

Is NOT collecting stamps a hobby?
Is transparent a colour?
Atheism is NOT a religion.
Religion is by definition, a belief in the existance of some higher power or God(s)

Atheism means of NO religion. We DON"T believe.

Atheism is a religion like bald is a hair color.

You mean like 'not playing football' is a sport. And 'not thinking at all' is a philosophy.

atheist do not have "a set of beliefs about god and proselytize that belief to others and try and convert people to their belief system?"

atheism means you don´t believe in god, we think that god does not exist. how could we have beliefs about a non-existing entity, that is absurd. and we do try to get people to think, because we see that religions are absurd

It's not a religion. Religion implies a set of beliefs, and rituals designed to worship and honor the diety of the religion. You're grasping at straws. But perhaps they should think about creating one so they can have a voice in the affairs that so far only liars and perverters of the faith have had so far in our country. They DO have the flying Spaghetti Monster.

enable me make this so easy as plausible for you, on account which you have have been given all of it incorrect. Atheism is, certainly, a loss of concept interior the life of any variety of deity or god. An agnostic is unsure, yet will proceed to pursue the acquisition of wisdom. basically a small minority of atheist-regularly observed as not elementary atheists-proclaim to have absolute wisdom that no gods exist. almost all of atheists merely properly known that they have no concept in any god or deity. Why is somebody a theist? because guy or woman has been occasion to or witness to a pair adventure, journey of phenomenon that he or she has concluded can basically be plausible because of the life of a few god or deity. Even studies which includes non secular epiphanies may well be categorized as such. An atheist is merely somebody who has not had this manner of journey or been witness to this manner of adventure. For the atheist, not something has ever befell to him/her that he or she concludes would desire to basically be plausible because of the life of a few god or deity. Now, that being reported, you're able to elect to proceed to entice on the edge of your own interpretations, that's effective. despite the fact that, if atheism is in accordance with faith, as you're saying, then i wish you have a concept in dragons, unicorns, leprechauns and genies. I mean, even with each little thing, are you able to teach none of those issues exist? i'm going to flow out on a limb right here and say which you maximum in all likelihood have no concept in unicorns. once you recognize why you have not any concept in unicorns, you will comprehend why atheists have no concept in any variety of gods OR deities.

"Atheism, as a philosophical view, is the position that either affirms the nonexistence of gods or rejects theism."

By definition, we do not have beliefs about God. We do not believe God exists. There is a difference.

We may have opinions about a fictional character in a story, just as I have opinions about the Grinch. That does not mean I believe in the Grinch.
