Well, anyone that is religious would probably just deny, deny, deny. Eventually a new religion would sprout up worshiping the more intelligent animal, probably.

Hey Jeff! :o)

edit: damn, the dolphins are really smarter than us? lol.. cool.

Religion stands firm and true. Humans are and always will be more intelligent then a dolphin. We control them, and they do not control Humans, so what does that tell you ?? The Bible tells us that man will have dominion over these creatures. You had better open the book of Genesis and learn, so you can hop on the train to Religion.. Dolphin Religion ??? Dream on.

interesting question, but yeah, i agree with most people here. it wouldnt make any difference because it would require science to prove that dolphins or monkeyspiders or whatever were smarter, and to fully embrace prescribed religion you have to be able to selectively ignore science as and when it becomes necessary to maintaining the cosy bubble of belief that your chosen religion provides you against all the big scary questions out there.

also, considering what we know about human nature, if dolphins were proven to be smarter than us its more likely that we would declare war on the dolphins and exterminate their nerdy butts! yeah! freakin wise *** dolphin cant fire a harpoon gun huh! get some!

It probably wouldn't make any difference to Wiccans. Many Wiccans believe that human beings are animals to begin with, and since the belief that all religions/philosophies are valid paths is also common, a lot of Wiccans would see no problem with continuing on their way and letting the dolphins continue on theirs. (Although I'm also willing to bet that there would be a lot of joy at the news and also eagerness to "talk" with dolphins and find out what their point of view is...)

What you ask actually has already happened, if you take the value of life as a measure of our 'smartness' - every creature in the world IS ALREADY a lot smarter than humans because we are the only creature that murders our own brothers and sisters because we have been hypnotised by the illusion of 'wealth' and 'personal ownership.'

One day (soon) the children of this world shall wake up and realise how foolish they have been. In that day...

"and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

This will happen when people wake up and realise the real value of life.

Until then - the creatures of the earth may not be as inventive or as creative as hu-mans, but they ARE PRESENTLY much smarter.

Never mind the religion. What about the science or all of man's other knowledge about the creatures and earth and universe we know about.

I say let man live by man's culture and let dolphins live by dolphin culture. If they do have their own savior at least they are wiser not to debate about it.

Why would it have to do anything to religion??? If intelligence was the marker of the "true" religion, then we'd all just take our cue from the most intelligent person alive at any one point - and so our belief structure would change as the most intelligent person died, or a more intelligent person was born. It doesn't happen now, so i don't see why it should happen if another species was proved to be particularly intelligent either.

if came down to that we have to kill all the dolphins. they are smarter they lack these handy thumbs. u have nada to worry about until they start walkin upright. n then we still have weapons like guns, stones, and poo if u need it.

but if r a bioligist u already known INTELLIGENCE is not required for survival. just look around.

We would convert, but only if their worship consisted of eating 5 buckets of squid, harrassing boaters and jumping through flaming hoops... ahhh, the life...

Edit: Well, how about the chicks that post later?? ;)

Well, religious people would attempt to deny the facts and keep their followers from attaining the truth. Thats how religion works. Eventually things would flip around but it would take a long long time.
