Even if it's something ridiculous like a 200 foot tall hot-pink panda bear who speaks in English and communicates using only limericks?

Even if it's something logically impossible like a "three sided square"?

I have heard some say (mainly atheist) that they do not believe in sin. Do you classify things as wrong doings? How about thinks like murder and rape? What exactly about the word sin (which simply means wrong doing) upsets you?

How is it possible that people can buy into the ridiculous idea that the Catholic Church didn't begin until after 300 AD?

Christ’s Church is Catholic. Catholic comes from a compound of two Greek words: “kato” = according to, and “holos” = the one. Christ’s Church is for all, and all are one: the Body of Christ. It is like speaking the name “Jesus”: Christ’s name was Yeshua, not Jesus. But we say Jesus because it came to us through the Greek language, which is what the New Testament was written in. The same goes for the word “catholic”.

Was Christ’s Church hierarchical? Yes. He chose twelve apostles, made Peter the leader, and gave them authorities that all the other disciples did not have. Later, in the book of Acts, the hierarchy develops further. The apostles appoint Deacons (greek - diakonos / διάκονος ), Priests (greek - presbyteros / πρεσβυτερος ), and Bishops (greek - episkopos / επίσκοπος ), and each have different duties. It is the same today in the Catholic Church

If an alcoholic stops drinking, s/he spends the rest of her/his life as a "recovering alcoholic".

Since I was raised as a Christian, but am no longer, does that make me a "Recovering Christian"? Or would that title still make me a Christian?

I'm an atheist, but I am curious as to how everyone else processes this, so all are welcome to answer.

Thanx!

i just got this, and frankly i'm a little surprised.

-I just received an e-mail warning about an upcoming movie for children in December. It's called "The Golden Compass" and stars Nicole Kidman. I don't know if you have heard anything about it. It will be advertised as a normal children's film but in the end it is trying to teach children that there is no God. It is based off of a trilogy of children's books and the author is called Philip Pullman. They evidently do some strange things in the movie and at the very end a girl and a boy are supposed to be depicting Adam and Eve, and then they kill God. They are trying to be very mild about it through the movie until the end, so a lot of parents won't even know that it's coming. Also, it will be promoting his books so you may want to become familiar with the author's name and the books that he writes!
I was astonished that someone would make a movie like this and direct it towards children!!-

your thoughts?

I've been told countless times that if I want to see evidence of God, I must first pray, study the Bible, etc, and that God reguarly shows Himself to Christians.

How does this make sense? Why would God only show Himself to those that already believe in Him?

when i look through one, i get scared because i'm thinking of those planets, and how they're so far away just makes me think beyond the universe and to me i find it frightening. especially if i see planets close up in a book ex. i have an astronomy book, i get scared when i see this blow up very detailed picture of a planet, i can't explain whyy! what's wrong with me is it some kind of phobia
I find the space so amazingly interesting, i someday want to be come a cosmologist or cosmotologist whichever it is.

* also when i look through a telescope i try to think beyond the universe, and because of the inifinite aspect, how the universe never stops, leads to me to think their IS a god. Why are we here?? why did god decide for us to be here, is their even a god? if their is one, how did he even form? why is their even life, is this a dream/ how do dreams even exist? and why did god decide for their to be life.. and not for their to just be a just nothing place, no one thinking, BLANK.

I know a lot of people on here are intelligent, some not so much, but it boggles my mind how much clashing there is between different religions. Most of it is just Athiests and Christians, I know there's more, but that's mostly what I see.

It seems like on so many questions the answers are "Oh __________ is terrible because they have bad beliefs" or something like that.

I know that not everybody will be getting along, but why do people get so angry with eachother so much?

Why would such a loving and just God send us to Hell for simply not believing in him? That seems kind of harsh and petty to me.

2007-11-20 10:09:50 · 24 answers · asked by Anonymous

A friend has stated several times that she must be a "bad Catholic" because of her perception of god (the Biblical deity), a fuzzy-lovey-cuddly deity who lets all "good" people into heaven, even if they don't accept Jesus Christ as their savior and even if they don't adhere to the Christian concept of morality and even if they don't obey god or ask god for forgiveness.

Does this kind of thinking make a Christian a "bad Christian"?
