I have a very curious question. There is something illogical in what the Christians say about Christ. They say that he is actually God who came to earth as a man, then died a very excruciating death in the cross to save mankind!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is the logic in this. It sounds so absurd! If I were God I would appear to man and say YO THERE ALL YOU SINNERS, BEHAVE OR ELSE, that would have made this place a lot more safer than it is now.

No, I think this whole story of Christ dying to redeem us sounds so silly that that any rational person cannot accept it.

Had the story been something very simple, for example he was an ordinary man who came as a PROPHET of God to in fact teach us and guide us, who unfortunately was murdered by his own people who knew better!

Now this is simple and plausible.

Anyone care to provide more insight into this.

Please I don't want to see anyone attacking anyone else here.

Cheers.

Please look at this question and then the answer from "Me, Thrice Baked."

Can we learn a valuable lesson from the interaction between these two regulars, one a Christian, the other an Atheist, on the correct way to answer each others questions with respect, eloquence, and heartfelt compassion?

Thank you for your time.

God is everything. You, me, everything that exists, is God. God created the natural laws that make it possible for water to evaporate and then rain down on fields that desperately need it. God is the cause of every hurricane and flood. You are God. You are the world. Everything is made of physical laws and energy and matter.

What if we were all made of fire? We are already made of the same things on a very basic level. Imagine that the air around you and everything that exists is all made of fire. Are you a small piece of fire? No! You and the rest of the fire are one and the same; God is fire and you are God.

This has been an exposition of my romanticized view of pantheism. Many authors have written about pantheism and other forms of non-theistic spirituality. But what do you think of this belief? As an atheist, is it compatible with your belief that there is no God? As a theist, is it compatible with your belief that there is a God?

I believe that there is a higher power being that of god, but i dont pray to him, i pray to my grandfather who passed away when I was very very young. I believe my grandfather is my guardian angel that watches over me. Yes i believe in angels. Kinda like my grandfather helps the big guy. I go to him first as my angel then "HIM". I guess you could say im more spiritual than religious unless there is a religion that believes this way? Any suggestions on what I could research to see what I am? Are there others like me?
A friend told me that some native american tribes are like this, but there are also some that believe there is the spirit of animals and nature. Im not native american and the way i feel has nothing to do with spirits of animals or nature....? I dont know what to even begin to look up...

I've seen people ask questions about homosexuality and what it says in the Bible and some so-called Christians will say "I don't think God cares who you lay with"
Do you think people today actually read the Bible and follow what it says or do they just pick and choose what they want to read? I was under the impression that you followed what the Bible says and not just pick and choose. I didn't think God has changed His mind on all this stuff. It seems to me He was pretty clear.
So do you think people actually follow what the Bible says or do they try to make it into something more to their liking?

about "Tom". The statement "I can't believe in a god that would allow" -innocent people being killed by His will., Or-by a God that would allow war, famine, floods, hurricanes, etc.etc. Since you can't accept or believe in God, who or what is to blame for such things? Mankind? If you feel it's due to mankind, then you obviously can't blame God. If there is no such thing as God, God can't be faulted or blamed for anything. If plants, animals, and eventually man, are all due to evolution-how did evolution start and why? Following the line of evolution=man coming about by such, why isn't the starting point of man (evolution) accountable for mans actions? You reject a God that would allow such. If evolution, cosmic forces-whatever, is to be credited, shouldn't the opposite hold true too? Some brought chemistry, science, biology, etc. into the equation. How, why, did such come into being? If reasons/blame for problems has to go somewhere, where does it go? To a God that doesn't exist??

secret?

Throughout the Gospel of Mark, Yeshua made every attempt to conceal His true identity as Ha'Meshiach (the Messiah), why did He do that?

This Messianic Secret can also be found in the Gospel of Matthew...

Even the demons immediately recognized who He was, but Yeshua (Jesus) suppressed their confession, why?

Yeshua (Jesus) even prohibited the public profession of those who experienced miraculous healing through Him, why?

Yeshua (Jesus) even used His parables to keep "outsiders" from knowing the secret, why would Yeshua (Jesus) not want His Messiah-hood revealed?

He made commands to His audience and His disciples to not reveal who he was after His performance of Messianic wonders, again, why the secrets?

I've just finished reading Waleed Aly's People Like Us which is about how a deadly combination of arrogance and ignorance by both Christians and Muslims is fuelling fanaticism. People who claim there are no Muslim "moderate" critics should read this! He also criticizes some "liberals" and discusses how the concept of jihad has been distorted.

All that is beautiful, in much of the Koran, becomes "invalid by paradox" because of the vague fanatically interpreted attack drone threads entwined within its teachings. Jesus and Mohammed could easily have or actually are best friends, according to the selfless all inclusive ideology they lived by, and yet, a "praise the lord and pass the ammunition"/ "kill the infidels" seem to be the damaging aspects of opposite parallels of so called Christians and Muslims alike.

We're both still in high school. He's not just someone who calls himself a Catholic; he's devoutly Catholic. I'm less than perfect, while he doesn't swear, is extremely generous, etc. He's even considering a nonsectarian college. Other than that, we have a lot in common, and we can make a conversation out of anything. I've considered asking him out to a dance or something like that, but I just don't know. Any ideas?

So, I want you to defend your faith. Here are my questions:

1) Lot offers his two virgin daughters to supplant the two male guests in his house. What lesson should I learn from this? That women are worthless?

2) There were cave paintings found in Syria only a few weeks ago that date back eleven thousand years ago. That completely contradicts the notion that God created this universe in 7 days. Furthermore, if you should tell me that it is not to be taken literally - then I will tell you that everything else in the bible should be taken literally as well. You can't have it both ways!

3) How did you all come up with characteristics for God - that he is omnipotent, omniscient, etc? Last I checked, there was no record that indicated such a thing. Is it because he split the sea into two? Oh, but I'm not sure whether I should take that literally?

4) How do you know he is all powerful? Is any being who creates a universe "all powerful?" Maybe creating a universe isn't so hard.

I've been with this guy for 3 years. At first I liked the fact he was proud of his heritage, and I started to become infatuated while learning about learning about Judaism. He's Jewish by heritage, but we're both atheists. Since then, it has gone DOWNhill. Him, his brother, dad and friends laugh and joke about gentiles. It's like we're the lowest creatures on Earth. Earlier, him and his brother were talking about how Jew's naturally have a higher IQ than white european's and african american's (by 30 pts). His mom isn't full Jew btw.

This goes on nonstop. At least once a day I hear something about how Jews make our life so great. What should I do? Am I stuck with it? His brother is worse, he only keeps friends that are Jews (most celebrities which you should know).

UGH! He just tried telling me that Muslims are worthless!!! I'm sick of it.
