Yes, in the gospels, so has Baha'u'llah.
Even Muhammad said in regard to the oneness of the Manifestations of God "I am Jesus" -Hadith, and "We make no distinctions among them" -Quran, and "We have caused some to excel the others." -Quran
So each has a specific grandeur of mission, and each is an emissary from God/Allah.
"For instance, it is written -- "He will come from an unknown place." Jesus came from Nazareth. "How can this be the Messiah?" they reasoned. "It is written -- he will carry an iron scepter, that is to say, his shepherd's staff will be a sword. This man has no sword. It was prophesised -- he will be seated on the throne of David; behold this man has not so much as a mat whereon to sit. He was to spread the law of Moses; this man, on the contrary, seeks to destroy it. How can he be the promulgator of God's law?" they scornfully laughed.
It was prophesised that the east and west would be united under the Jewish law; the animals would be at peace one with another; that the wolf would no longer devour the sheep. They did not see these conditions fulfilled. Roman tyranny enveloped the world and they crucified the Christ.
The Jews were blind to reality. The real Christ came from the city of light in the eternal realms Christ is a king. His shepherd's staff, that is, his tongue, was a sword dividing the true from the false. The throne of David is not a material throne but an eternal kingdom. Christ re-established this kingdom; it has been forgotten. Christ conquered the east and the west. This means a spiritual victory, not a material one.
Animals were to live in peace. This means the Chaldeans, the Syrians, the Romans, the Greeks, who were to make peace among themselves, for Christ spread the cause of peace. As the Jews did not understand these things, were deprived of the beauty of the Christ. Behold again, the Christians are expecting the stars to fall and Christ to appear in the clouds, yet these are but symbols. They are awaiting a Christ from a heaven that does not exist.
Let us awake! Let us acquire a new intelligence in order to interpret the symbols and become acquainted with the mysteries. The real Christ's spirit has come again from the supreme apex to illumine the world.
In the Gospel, Jesus said, "I am come from heaven." Physically, he was born of a woman, but the Christ's reality is from the city of eternity, for the heaven is not a place but a state of consciousness.
Man has a sacred power which permits him to discover the inner significances, the reality of invisible things. Ponder over these statements, so that the portals of divine wisdom and infinite knowledge may open before thy face."
(Abdu'l-Baha, Divine Philosophy, p. 35)
Edit: The reason for telling no-one He was the Messiah was because "for it is given to you [apostles] to know, but for them [the worldly] only parables."
The problem is today many take what is explicitly stated as parable, as the literal, and the explicitly stated as literal, as parable, also to mention all those things not stated whether parable or literal are interpreted as people please just as the Jewish scribes did in His day, but which He interpreted "with authority"...
He does again now [historically] in His "Second Coming" in "The Glory of the Father" Baha'u'llah [Glory of God]
God bless.

He confirmed to Simon Peter that he is the Christ, which is understood to be the Messiah, but he never actually used the word Messiah.
He never claimed to be a prophet in the Bible either. In fact, no prophet ever claimed to be a prophet. It's only in Mohammad's "recitation" where Jesus declares himself to be a prophet.
That alone is a big red flag that something is very wrong in the Qur'an. Did Mohammad declare himself to be a prophet? If not, then how do you know he was? See how your own logic works against you?
If you want to learn about Christianity, ask a Christian, not an Imam. Imams want to keep you as far away from the true message of Jesus as possible, and as close to Mohammad's version of Jesus as possible at the same time.

A sincere a direct answer to your question posed, is a emphatic YES . Of course, there were many impostors coming along claiming that they were the "Messiah". If you were living at the time and had fore-knowledge of the many prophecies, written thousands of years in advance concerning Him [Jesus], you would of recognized the Messiah. This is why the Holy Bible has lasted for thousands of years and is the world's only Book, which deals with the past, present and future of mankind - besides being the world's biggest "most sold, ever" Book.

There is nothing more I can say but it is up to you to say who Jesus is at this moment for your life. It doesn't mean anything to me if he had claimed that He is the Messiah.
But who do you think he is? As for me, he is the light of the world that see life in this world without malice point of view. A true guide of the lost into the Kingdom of God. A Messiah if that is what it means. A martyr is the word for this modern times. But as of today, if your Messiah means the soul Saviour, it is he then, either he claimed it or not.
What ever word for Him, it would be Him... for he had said, "don't be afraid of those who can kill your body, but be very afraid of those who can kill your soul".

First of all, the name Christ means "Messiah."
In John 1:41 the disciples are talking about Jesus when they say, "We have found the Messiah!"
And in John 4:25, 26, when Jesus was talking to the Samaritan woman, she said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming who is called Christ. Whenever that one arrives, he will declare all things to us openly."
And Jesus said, "I who am speaking to you am he."
So, he DID say he was the Messiah and all evidence shows that he truly is the promised Messiah because of all the prophecies that were fulfilled in him.

Mt 26:62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent.
The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.”
Mt 26:64 “Yes, it is as you say,”Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

The Quran mentions Jesus as 'Isa Al Masih', meaning Jesus the Messiah. (peace be upon him)
Allah will send the Messiah, son of Maryam, and he will descend to the white minaret in the East of Damascus, wearing two garments dyed with saffron, placing his hands on the wings of two angels. When he lowers his head, beads of perspiration will fall from it, and when he raises his head, beads like pearls will scatter from it.
He will kill the Dajjal, an ugly, evil blasphemer who claims himself as God, and who misleads many people to blaspheme. Prophet ^Isa will perform Hajj and travel to visit the grave of the Prophet to salute him, and to greet him by saying, "As-salamu ^alaykum ya rasul Allah", as narrated by Abu Dawud at-Tayalisiyy and others.

Christians (that would be me) believe that Jesus not only CLAIMED to be the Messiah, but He IS the Messiah.
What you believe is up to you.
