I am a Christian. I have friends that are not. I do not call them heathens, nor do I think they are. I do not judge them, the Bible says I'm not suppose to, plus I don't feel good about it. Trying to convert people is a selfless act of faith. If you are a true Christian, you would understand the importance of believing in Jesus Christ and wanting to get other people to follow that same path righteousness that you have found. That's what I understand anyways.

I'm Christian, but I also believe in respecting other people's beliefs, culture's and religion's. I don't think people in this world will ever learn to get along until we start to respect each other and referring to people as 'heathen's' doesn't exactly oooz respect. It screams 'I'm superiour!' and that's probably why there's so much negativity.
Not to mention, is Yahoo Questions and Answers really a good or appropriate place to 'convert' people? I thought it would be a great place to learn more about my religion and other religions.....instead it's some bizarre battleground. It's kinda sad. Where people could be expanding thier minds and learning more about different beliefs and cultures, they just bash them, belittle them and rant about eternal damnation.
If people want to show the beauty of Christianity, perhaps they should start living it. Post questions to other Christians, expand your knowledge and respect other peoples beliefs. It doesn't mean you can't disagree, but if you feel the need, do it with love and respect...
and now I'm ranting...sorry. I'm just saddened by the hatred here, all around.

The bible says to preach the gosple to the nations and not to be ashamed. Christians have an obligation, christians are ambassadors for Jesus and it is a God given responsibility to try and help others to find and see the goodness of Jesus and try and help them. Christians are stereotyped by thinking they are holier than thou and everyone else is bad. But there are some honest, sound, and genuine christians who literally feel compassion for those who do not "know" Jesus and feel a void in there hearts and so if I saw a great and awesome movie, i would tell all my friends to check out the movie....get the point???

well, from the christian perspective, I think that the language - "converting heathens" will only sour your perceptions; rather, consider it as so: "one beggar giving bread to another beggar".
A christian in walking in the spirit of Jesus, by that, one driven to humility, cannot call his non-christian neighbor a heathen. As a christian, you're still a sinner till the day you die; repentence sets you free, but you fight sin you're whole life--only Christ himself is w/o sin. As a Christian, yes, my duty is to share the gospel (only god converts and saves). If I or any other Christian feels compelled to declare someone a "heathen", than I can't blame you or anyone else for finding it hard to "understand".

It's obvious you don't know the meaning of "Heathen." But why stop there? Convert ALL the Pagans, an the Muslims, Buddhists, Krishnas, Mormons, and Methodists too. Then they'll all be just like you and you'll be happy. Nothing more to do, but happy.

The problem is that too many people dont really portray Jesus like they should. The bible never said we would be accepted for our testemony, as mater of fact Jesus said they will hate you because they hated me. The reason we are witnesses is because in the day of jugment no one will have an excuse why they didnt live for God. So if I witness to my naighbor and in the day of Judgement he tells God he didn't know, God will remind him of me and I will be a witness of that.
Also people can say they dont believe in God but you will be supprise how many really do and how many just dont know and they are tired of not knowing. There is one thing nobody can deny if they will be honest. Thats is God made us perfect as far as where he wanted our nose and our eyes and our mouth ect. but inside our souls he left an empty spot that only eternity can fill. Thats the reason why so many people are so depress because no matter what they do they are not happy and they cant find no joy in life. Why do you think there is more people in prozac? The more people deny God the more people get depressional drugs. I dont know about you but when God filled me with his Holy Spirit with evidence according to the bible I have been a better man than ever. i dont care what anybody says I have an experience no one will be able to remove out of my life.
One more thing is the bible says no one comes near the father unless the father draws near unto him. I dont tell everybody about this great message because my faith is; "God if you are dealling with somebody please lead me to that hungry soul and he always does". The bible says dont cast your pearls before the swines and I refuse to cast my pearls (the word of God) before people that dont care to hear. There are too many lost souls that are looking for direction to worry about those that have all ready made up there minds they want nothing with God. The bible does say every knee shall bow and every tung shall confess that Jesus is Lord. Keep your head up and continue working.

Heathens for goodness sake? Idiots at the last Judgement will still not understand Christ. We are as Christians are required to tell others of the promise of eternal life in a body that will not get sick nor ever die. those for which this in not attractive are perhaps too foolish to be welcome in a better life at that
God and Jesus Christ want loyal and loving folks for neighbors; not belligerent and nasty mouthed people.

It is hard to believe becuase it is not true. it is not what jesus told his diciples to do. He was not interested in the gentiels, he was interested in the Iraelites. He was not interested in conversion, he was interested in passing on of the message. conversion was an idea the was promulgate by the church later...conversion was the funnel through which the riches of ages would flow. conversion was by any means possible, includieng threat of death...and torture...and worse.
Jesus, in his own words, was NOT interested in the heathen. He did not want to waste his words on the dogs, if you recall.
Matthew 15 24-26
"24He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel."
25The woman came and knelt before him. "Lord, help me!" she said.
26He replied, "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."
