secret?
Throughout the Gospel of Mark, Yeshua made every attempt to conceal His true identity as Ha'Meshiach (the Messiah), why did He do that?
This Messianic Secret can also be found in the Gospel of Matthew...
Even the demons immediately recognized who He was, but Yeshua (Jesus) suppressed their confession, why?
Yeshua (Jesus) even prohibited the public profession of those who experienced miraculous healing through Him, why?
Yeshua (Jesus) even used His parables to keep "outsiders" from knowing the secret, why would Yeshua (Jesus) not want His Messiah-hood revealed?
He made commands to His audience and His disciples to not reveal who he was after His performance of Messianic wonders, again, why the secrets?

The Jews held the idea that Messiah would lead them to political and military victory to establish a kingdom here on earth. The works Jesus performed were sufficient to earn a very large following. Letting people know that he identified himself as the Messiah would have catastrophic effect upon his intentions. Demanding release of Barabas from Pilate's confines in place of Jesus showed the direction of thought. It just was not time for his Messiah identity to be revealed.
He came to his own, and his own knew him not. The people were thoroughly drenched in ritual rather than spirit.
Overlooked many times is that Messiah belonged first to Israel. God's promise to His own people was fulfilled. Until his arrival there was no conflict over who or what race of men was chosen by God to be the recipient of prophets, much less Messiah. Israel was an enclosed, defined nation, held separate for God's purpose. There are no writings outside those attributed to Israel that promised the arrival, those writings holding descriptive prophecy concerning him. Attempts to be included in the promises made to Israel were also conspicuously missing, so it was not seen a beneficial aspect to be of Jewish descent. Ancient hatred would have removed the nation from history with no real intent to preserve any promises made. Messiah was Israel's alone in the eyes of both Israel and the surrounding nations. Only after completion of his immediate task to his chosen people could salvation be extended to the rest of the world.

That's in the beginning of his ministry. People were already swarming him trying to get miracles out of him. And remember that the Jews at that time believed that the Messiah was going to be a powerful leader who would overthrow the Roman government. That wasn't anywhere near what he was there for, and he didn't want to be mobbed by people who just wanted him to do tricks and carry on their agenda...that's why he was always going off from the crowd. Then later, near to his death, he let it be known who he was. Straight up words considered blasphemous, crazy miracles like rasing people from the dead, driving out the crooks who were trying to make a buck on poor people in the temple, talking back to the religious leaders, letting the people freak out when he came into Jerusalem in Messianic form...etc.

Well, people were already trying to seize him and kill him. Imagine if he made a big scene about it! His time had not come yet to be killed. He still had a lot of preaching work to do.
But, it wasn't really a secret. Everyone, including the Jewish religious leaders knew he was the Messiah. They were just afraid to lose their prominent positions in society to this man who was performing all these miracles. So they sought to kill him and labelled him a blasphemer.
There were times when he didn't keep it a secret. But, ultimately, Jesus hadn't come to glorify himself, but the one who sent him. His father, Jehovah.

The Jews during Jesus' day wer being ruled by the Romans And they expected the Messiah to be political and free Israel from Rome. Since that was not Jesus' mission, He kept His Messiahship from the general population.

The Bible number for fulfillment and completion is 7. His ministry was 3 and a half years, so since He dies on Passover, I suppose He began just after Succot.
Anyhow, 3.5 years is half of 7. As if to say "I'll be back, I'm half done here."
So if He was arrested and killed to early, He would not be fulfilling all prophesy.

If you remember, it didn't turn out so well for him. That was probably why he was trying to keep it on the down low.

To not be killed so quickly perhaps? You notice they didn't keep his secrets.
