I'm not Muslim, but I'm reading the Qur'an so that I can better understand the Islamic beliefs.

Something very fundamental jumped out at me. It very clearly stated that there should be no sects formed from Islam. It also says very clearly that this Qur'an is the absolute word of God.

As soon as someone deviated from Muhammad's teachings and named their sect, wouldn't that mean that they had turned their back on Muhammad's teachings? Also, since Muhammad taught that social discord was a terrible sin, wouldn't that motivate the different sects to return to the original teachings of the Qur'an and abandon their sectarian philosophies?

I know that these questions will seem very ignorant to most of you so I apologize in advance if I've misunderstood the context and meaning of those passages.

because God answered the GA Governor's prayer for rain? I hope not.

And please, withhold your criticisms like "well, He could have made it rain more than it did." I'm convinced that, if Atlanta's Coke bottling facility didn't hog all of GA's water, ya'll would have plenty in your reservoir.

I have been studying the Bible with Jehovahs witnesses for the past three years. I have never been more certain in my heart that this is "the" truth. Everything makes perfect sense, everything is well organized, and everything ..absolutely everything is based on the Bible. Jehovas promise to us of everlasting life is drawing near, and now more than ever I feel the urge to act now before it is too late. The promise states that all those righteouse in Jehovas eyes living or dead, will inherit the earth, which will be our paradise, and 144,000 annionted souls will reign in the heavens alongside Jehova. All the earth will will be restored to perfection. This is what will happen after Armagaedon. During Armagaedon Jehova will hold back satan for 1000 years while everything is restored to perfection, and after the thousand year reign satan wil then be unleashed once more to see if he can once again lead us in to temptation.this is my question what happens if the cycle repeats itself?

If you say he will fulfill these in the second coming, then explain why you think so.

The Bible says that Satan is the god of confusion. I say the person who wrote that was being far more honest than "hell and damnation" christians.
Is there a person out there who calls themself Christian who can reply to a statement or question withour taking offense and showing their ignorance? If you answer ignorant. It is noticed. No exceptions.

Christians believe aborted babies go straight to heaven, right? you can't tell me earth is better than heaven....so...would you prefer to have been aborted? no pain of this world. no chance of screwing up and going to hell. FREE TICKET!!!

please no more reporting me. this is an honest question. isn't that what you believe? aborted babies go straight to heaven? so, what exactly is wrong with sending people to god? now, i know you wouldn't get abortions, because you don't want to kill any babies....but why are you against atheist abortions? we're already going to hell for our disbelief...why would you care that we are sending children (that we'd raise to be paegan) striaght to heaven? isn't that the BEST CASE SCENARIO?

Russian Premier Viktor Zubkov, Putin's second-in-command who may run for Russian President and be elected in March 2008 as a Putin stand-in, will be about 66.6 years old in April 2008, another interesting 666 coincidence. And note Revelation 13:18 (King James version):
"Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six (666)."
"The number of man" is 46, since man has 46 chromosones, and "Adam" the first man totals 46 in Greek, the original language of the Book of Revelation, as shown on the Greek page. So April 6, 4-6, corresponds to 46, when Putin is exactly 666 months old. So all this adds up to April 6 being a time of Putin receiving Antichrist power, possibly by manipulating Russia's election to make himself absolute dictator? Putin born 10/1952?

If medical experts can't save the limbs of an individual, will a god restore that person's limbs if the person prays and has faith, or is that person most likely stuck having to live without their natural limbs, hoping that medical experts can give them mechanical replacement limbs?

without the Lord. How can anybody make it in this life without Christ?
I would have lost my mind and be overwhelmed with the issues of life without someone higher than myself to guide and direct me. Humans are a cheap substitute because they go through the same things I do and don't have all the answers to lifes problems

1- Isaiah 40:22 is claiming that the Earth is a flat circle.

2- Isaiah 40:22 is claiming that the Earth has a circle above it.

If we were to take condition #1, then we are left with a clear and irrefutable contradiction between Isaiah 40:22 and some of the other bible verses , because a flat circle doesn't have "four corners", and ironically in either case, we still have a scientifically false claim about the Earth's shape.

IF we were to take condition #2, then it doesn't prove that the Earth is an egg-shaped figure, and Isaiah 40:22 surely becomes irrelevant to this subject.

One thing is for sure clear, and that is Isaiah 40:22 is obviously ambiguous and not clear if we wish to prove from it that the Earth is not flat and is egg-shaped. If we look at what the entire Bible says (as presented above by all the Verses) about the shape of the Earth as the Roman Catholic Church did in the past, then we would reach the same conclusion they reached, and that is: The Earth is Flat!

Isaiah 11:12
12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH. (KJV)

Revelation 7:1
1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. (KJV)

Job 38:13
13 That it might take hold of the ENDS OF THE EARTH, that the wicked might be shaken out of it? (KJV)

Jeremiah 16:19
19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ENDS OF THE EARTH, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. (KJV)

Daniel 4:11
11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the ENDS OF ALL THE EARTH: (KJV)

Matthew 4:8
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; (KJV)

So would you say that the bible says the earth is flat based on these verses.

[Atheists, Christians, i ask that you respectfully refrain from commenting. I have already identified the target audience and it is not inclusive of yourselves. I know some of you feel the need to speak in a pejorative manner either insulting their intelligence or morals. I would ask for restraint this time.]

A simple question. Usually in the debate over the ontological existence of god(s), the Flying Spaghetti Monster is invoked as a symbol of the unreasonableness of both faith and agnosticism.

One of my own agnostic friends usually tends to dismiss the objection via "Argument ad Absurdum" - and chalks it up as a grandstanding/psychological tactic.

I just wanted to get all of your takes on this - ie: Why hasn't the FSM idea moved you away from Agnosticism?

On a person note: I'm not invested in the matter either way, just curious as to what the responses would be like.
