Clearly religions need to be involved with the development of a more comprehensive worldview and ethics to assist in reversing this trend. Whether from an anthropocentric or a biocentric perspective, more adequate environmental values need to be formulated and linked to areas of public policy. Scholars of religion can be key players in this articulation process. Moreover, there are calls from other concerned parties to participate in a broader alliance to halt the loss of species, topsoil, and natural resources. It is our hope to expand this alliance of scholars and activists by creating common ground for dialogue and creative partnership in envisioning and implementing long range solutions to some of our most pressing environmental problems. This is critical because the attitudes and values that shape people’s concepts of nature come primarily from religious worldviews and ethical practices. The moral imperative and value systems of religions are indispensable in mobilizing the

How do you determine who is trustworthy? The avatar you're communicating with could be anyone. If I converse with someone who claims to be a young woman in her twenties she could actually be some pervert in his 50's.

Yet I still take people for their word, and assume they are who they claim. It doesn't make sense I guess.

What about you? Do you close yourself off and not get invested? If you do get invested, how do you know for sure the other person is being truthful?

Although I guess we can never determine if someone else is being truthful, be it online or face to face.

Thoughts?

I mean in the defense of their beliefs...or non-beliefs in the case of the latter. Theists seem so serious defending themselves but then the Atheists seem to be having a lot of fun countering the Theist beliefs...

Notice I capitalized both Theist and Atheist, I remember a small debate on that a couple weeks ago, that Atheist should be capitalized!...everybody happy!

If you put everything you could into the design of a computer, even a little of your self and it totally rebelled; started cursing you, told you that you had no say in what it did, you didn't exist and were the root of all computer problems, what would you do? I'd unplug it and never plug it back in. If your answer is close to mine, think of the similarities of God creating us and our rebellion. Quit being mad at God, realize we are His creation and start being thankful for His love and patience!

on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your walk with God?

just a few things to ponder?
do you spend time with God daily? how?
do you evangelize?
do you tithe to your church?
do you get with others for discipling, confession, correction, advise?
do you goto church weekly?
what reasons stop you from going to church?

are you looking for a church that calls you higher? if so, I know of a church that does that. I can direct you to one in what ever city you may live in.

It's been suggested -- okay, said outright -- that we do not, and instead look to priests and saints for our salvation.

Funny, I always thought we relied upon Christ for that.

But the concept of "owning" our spirituality -- anyone, not just Catholics -- seems rather odd to me. Particularly in the context of Christian spirituality, isn't owning it contradictory? If we are Christian, we freely give everything we are to Christ, and rely on Him fully.

So in the interest of clearing the air on this -- upon what, or Who, do Catholics rely for our salvation? And is "not taking ownership of our spirituality" a valid accusation? Please take into consideration not only your own knowledge but also "cultural" Catholicism, as I believe negative experience with this may be the basis of the assertion.

As a child they were open-minded enough to believe in fairy tales(such as the bible). As a rational adult they are to close-minded to even consider the idea that there might not be a god. Is it because of fear?

This is based on responses here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhObiC4AoOdhbLZpeq_kcWLd7BR.;_ylv=3?qid=20071115071343AAMUSDK

There's about a 50/50 split among responses as to whether or not atheism is an active belief in the non-existence of God or whether it is a passive disbelief. In the case of the former, it's self-evident that atheism is, in fact, a belief system akin to religion. So would it therefore be reasonable for the US government to treat cases brought before courts under the guise of the constitutionally non-existent "separation of church and state" as a conflict between religions rather than a conflict between religion in society and government's supposed role to eliminate it? Wouldn't this level the playing field between these two conflicting religions? If not (and you are an atheist), could you please explain why you believe that non-atheists should be treated as inequal members of society? I thought atheists valued equality above all else.
