I mean in the defense of their beliefs...or non-beliefs in the case of the latter. Theists seem so serious defending themselves but then the Atheists seem to be having a lot of fun countering the Theist beliefs...

Notice I capitalized both Theist and Atheist, I remember a small debate on that a couple weeks ago, that Atheist should be capitalized!...everybody happy!

I don't think either "atheist" or "theist" should be capitalized. In fact, it's not a matter of opinion - they aren't proper nouns.

But yeah, I think it's fun to argue, and I enjoy analyzing beliefs and the psychology behind them.

I'm a Christian.

When I was a young Christian with a naive view of God and when I was an atheist (uncapitalized out of my understanding of English but not out of disrespect by any means), yes I had fun. When the conversation is completely rational, someone is right and someone is wrong. There will be a winner and a loser. It's a competetive game in a sense.

Nowadays, no, I do not have fun at all. Whether people become fundamentalist about their religion or opposition to religion in such an exchange I am always most concerned with haunting questions like, "Where is the love?" and "What pain is this person experiencing over other peoples' beliefs that leads them to behave this way?" No, not fun.

We had a lot of fun at the last picnic/mixer! You should have been there.

The Theists challenged the Athiests to a game of tug-o-war. But the Athiests said "there's no such thing as rope" and declared that they were much smarter than the Theists for even bothering to find rope.

Then the Theists said that one day rope would come and tie them all up but not the ones that had agreed to play tug-o-war. And then one Athiest threw potato salad at the Theists, sorta giving all Athiests a bad name even though most of the Athiests had decided to play hacky sack. Because Hacky Sack is a pointless game in which there is no winner, and Athiests love that.

Good times.

Well thank you for adding two sides. Very thoughtful.

It depends on whether someone views a debate as fun or not. I don't find it fun to purposely argue with Theists. I couldn't imagine Theist's having fun arguing theism. No one likes to have their ideals attacked.

My life is an example of Theists and Atheists who mingle on a common basis and have tons of fun in the process.

The difference is Atheists don't go knockingon doors trying to change people. We believe what we believe and will talk about it if asked.

Look around Yahoo Answers, how many times do you see a non religious related question answered by some Bible thumping person quoting scripture? I noticed alot more of it in the last 24 hours.

I saw an atheist on TV the other day who was absolutely pissed that the Governor of Georgia called for prayer for rain. All the theists laughed at his stick-up-the-butt attitude.

People enjoy debate, but the loser goes on a killing spree. In anycase though, yes, both sides enjoy argueing because this is NO PROOF that either side is right or wrong. It's an unresolvable conflict of interests where one side is hoping the other caves in and says "**** it, you win."

I believe in having fun and I do ... I'm atheist.
Atheist and theist are adjectives rather than nouns, although I suppose they could be either..
