SLY PHY

I read a History of God. Some years ago admittedly, but I walked away from it still a monotheist. I wasn't the only one:

"Armstrong shows a reverent curiosity and a generosity of spirit, refreshing the understanding of what one knows and providing a clear introduction to the unfamiliar." (A former Arch-bishop of Canterbury)

"A fascinating way of approaching the subject." (Rabbi Julia Neuberger)

Both of those quotes are taken from the back cover of the said book. It's atheists who have the naive ideas about how monotheists approach the subject.

For a good answer to this question, I suggest you read 'A History of God' by Karen Armstrong.

Its heavy going but you'll walk away knowing a lot more about the mythological origins of the monotheistic God

NO..

The origional word myth meant truth. It is only in the last 200 years that it has come to mean story.

Some say He is the supreme being and some say he's just made by man.
At the end of the day I find difficult to believe that anyone has changed their point of view no matter how ingenious the questions could be in R&S.

Yahweh/Jehovah is nothing more than a tribal god of the middle east with a good PR campaign.

He's certainly no better than Odin, Zeus, Wakan-Tanka, Quetzalcoatl, Thoth, Anansi, or any of the many gods of other folk traditions around the world.
