Because they are all human beings and they differ in their experiences having been endowed with senses with difference in perception. In order to claim respectability they and their followers associate them with the name of God as messengers of God.
Please excuse me, if it sounds harsh.

Prophets do speak on behalf of God ONCE God gives them a word for you. They are human just like anyone else so they do have opinions or feeling about certain situations. There are times when a prophet can speak a word in your life and not be instructed by God but because they are the annointed of God and the word is in line with His word, God honors it and it is so. Take for example in either I or II Kings when Elijah was going through this town and this woman knew he was a man of God and told her husband she wanted to build a place for him to sleep when he came through their town (b/c he was there so frequently) and her husband agreed. Once they had the place built onto their house and him and his servant stayed as they were leaving he asked her what does she need, she said nothing. His servant looked around and saw that there wasn't a child and so Elijah told her according to the time of life that time next yr she would have a child and it was so. Not that God had instructed him to tell her that but b/c he was Gods annointed God honored what he said. God Bless.

I hope you gave an example on what are you saying! Because prophets of God does not contradict each other.
2Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; where unto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
2Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
2Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

True prophets of God will speak the same truth, it is the false prophets that will have mixed understandings. This is why there is so much confusion, there are many false prophets among us. Only those who preach Jesus Christ as God Almighty are true messengers sent from God.

What true prophets foretell comes to pass, but they may not understand just when or how it will be
Dan. 12:9: “Go, Daniel, because the words are made secret and sealed up until the time of the end.”
1 Cor. 13:9, 10: “We have partial knowledge and we prophesy partially; but when that which is complete arrives, that which is partial will be done away with.”
Prov. 4:18: “The path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established.”
The apostles and other early Christian disciples had certain wrong expectations, but the Bible does not classify them with the “false prophets.”
Nathan the prophet encouraged King David to go ahead with what was in his heart regarding the building of a house for Jehovah’s worship. But later Jehovah told Nathan to inform David that he was not the one who would build it. Jehovah did not reject Nathan for what he had said earlier but continued to use him because he humbly corrected the matter when Jehovah made it plain to him.—1Â Chron. 17:1-4, 15.

Because of human interpretation. Jesus was the Lamb or Son of God, not THE GOD. Jesus said himself "do not call me good, for only the father is Good." Also, there are many, many false prophets who have NO authority from GOD.

If you are speaking of prophets in the Bible, they are speaking messages from God, not their opinion (that is if they are being obedient to Him).
Clarify your question a bit, if that is not what you are asking.

OT Prophets (Israeli)
Prophets of the Lord speak on behalf of Yahweh Elohim Echad Yahweh. The LORD thy God Is One LORD.
Islam prophet
Mohammad takes out the plural of Elohim saying that is blasphemous & says that Gods Name is 'Allah!' with no partners!
NT Prophets (Christians)
Christian Prophets prophesy according to what they hear in Spirit from the Father, Son or Holy Ghost. And they believe these three are one. One Savior & One Creator. 1Jn5 There are 3 who bear witness in heaven; Father, Word & Holy Spirit; and these 3 are 1. Also LORD thy God is One LORD.
Mormon prophetS
Then Mormons believe God the Father, God the Son & God the Holy Spirit are 3 different individuals who are one in purpose. So 3 Gods that agree. But that Jesus was spirit birthed as one of Father Gods spirit children as a spiritual son of God also. But then they believe all of us were spirit children of Father God along with Lucifer & the other winged Cheribims. This contradicts my beliefs that the winged Cheribims were created (brought forth) by God as one of Gods first children. That is why the bible calls the winged Cheribims, 'Sons of God' or 'morning stars'. I believe that mankind is made in the image of God (the Creator: Father, Son & Holy Spirit). We were in Gods mind & He created us. Man was originally made a body, soul & spirit. With rebellion is spiritual death (denied tree of life) then physical death. So? The Mormon belief of the soul & spirit is contrary to my belief. And that Mormon men (heads of their wives) can be gods also like Jesus attained Godhood.

Because there are false Prophets who will lead the people astray. Muhammad was one such.
