1- Isaiah 40:22 is claiming that the Earth is a flat circle.
2- Isaiah 40:22 is claiming that the Earth has a circle above it.
If we were to take condition #1, then we are left with a clear and irrefutable contradiction between Isaiah 40:22 and some of the other bible verses , because a flat circle doesn't have "four corners", and ironically in either case, we still have a scientifically false claim about the Earth's shape.
IF we were to take condition #2, then it doesn't prove that the Earth is an egg-shaped figure, and Isaiah 40:22 surely becomes irrelevant to this subject.
One thing is for sure clear, and that is Isaiah 40:22 is obviously ambiguous and not clear if we wish to prove from it that the Earth is not flat and is egg-shaped. If we look at what the entire Bible says (as presented above by all the Verses) about the shape of the Earth as the Roman Catholic Church did in the past, then we would reach the same conclusion they reached, and that is: The Earth is Flat!
Isaiah 11:12
12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH. (KJV)
Revelation 7:1
1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. (KJV)
Job 38:13
13 That it might take hold of the ENDS OF THE EARTH, that the wicked might be shaken out of it? (KJV)
Jeremiah 16:19
19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ENDS OF THE EARTH, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. (KJV)
Daniel 4:11
11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the ENDS OF ALL THE EARTH: (KJV)
Matthew 4:8
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; (KJV)
So would you say that the bible says the earth is flat based on these verses.

It means the Earth is a Sphere.....
As for the person that said that the Bible doesn't have to be scientifically accurate, that is wrong. If God created everything, and he did, then anything he rights WILL be accurate, scientifically, morally and of course Spiritually.

Isa 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
It's called figurative language, hun. Kinda like how we call it sunrise and sunset, when in fact the sun neither rises nor sets - we orbit it. Calling it the circle of the earth isn't that far off anyways - circles are round, and so is the earth in a spherical way. The earth also has a circular orbit around the sun..... perhaps the verse is referring to that! Either way, it's just fancy language.
And the four corners of the earth refer to north, south, east, and west. It's just a more poetic way of portraying it.
So no, I don't think the Bible is saying that the earth is flat. I think people want to think that so that they can dismiss the Bible out of hand as being a book of fables written by ignorant men.

(Isaiah 2:4) * the whole international will worship the only God of Israel (Isaiah 2:17) * he will be descended from King David (Isaiah 11:a million) by ability of King Solomon (a million Chron. 22:8-10) * The Moshiach will be a guy of this international, an observant Jew with "worry of God" (Isaiah 11:2) * Evil and tyranny should not be able to face previously his administration (Isaiah 11:4) * expertise of God will fill the international (Isaiah 11:9) * he will contain and attraction to human beings from all cultures and international locations (Isaiah 11:10) * All Israelites will be back to their position of origin (Isaiah 11:12) * lack of existence will be swallowed up continuously (Isaiah 25:8) * there'll be no extra starvation or ailment, and absence of existence will end (Isaiah 25:8) * each and each and every of the useless will upward thrust back (Isaiah 26:19) * The Jewish human beings will experience eternal excitement and gladness (Isaiah fifty one:11) * he will be a messenger of peace (Isaiah fifty 2:7) * international locations will finally end up recognizing the wrongs they did to Israel (Isaiah fifty 2:13-fifty 3:5) * The peoples of the international will turn to the Jews for religious coaching (Zechariah 8:23) * The ruined cities of Israel will be restored (Ezekiel 16:fifty 5) * guns of warfare will be destroyed (Ezekiel 39:9) * The Temple will be rebuilt (Ezekiel 40) resuming most of the suspended mitzvot * he will then perfect the whole international to serve God mutually (Zephaniah 3:9) * Jews will understand the Torah with out learn (Jeremiah 31:33) * he will grant you with each and each and every of the purposes of your heart (Psalms 37:4) * he will take the barren land and make it ample and fruitful (Isaiah fifty one:3, Amos 9:13-15, Ezekiel 36:29-30, Isaiah 11:6-9). until eventually those are done, the Moschiach has no longer arrived.

Isaiah 40:22 reads: “There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth.” When this text says that God sits above the circle of the earth, this harmonizes with the fact that the earth is circular, viewed from all directions, but that also makes it globular in form. The Hebrew word hhug here is defined in A Concordance of the Hebrew and Chaldee Scriptures by B. Davidson as “circle, sphere.”
This same Hebrew word for circle is found in Job 22:14, where the New World Translation says of God: “On the vault of heaven he walks about.” Now, we know that the vault of heaven as seen from the earth is hemispherical, or like a half globe. The other half of the hemispherical vault of heaven extends below the earth upon which we stand and hence cannot be seen directly by us. In harmony with this fact, when Isaiah 40:22 says that God sits above the circle of the earth, then the word “circle” here is in the same Hebrew sense as that found in Job 22:14.
Thus it follows that the word “circle” in Isaiah 40:22 must mean something that is rotund, just as the appearance of the sky viewed from the earth is rotund and like a vault.

22 He who is sitting on the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants [are] as grasshoppers, He who is stretching out as a thin thing the heavens, And spreadeth them as a tent to dwell in.
I don't see the word 'flat' anywhere in the translation that you used nor the one I used. Why insist that it's meaning 'flat'? Who has persuaded you to say that the word 'flat' is supposed to be inserted?
And who says that it's the Earth itself and not the orbit of the Earth?
This is what the Hebrew says concerning the word 'circle':
Strong's Number: 02329
Chuwg
Noun Masculine
Definition
1. circle, circuit, compass
2. (BDB) vault (of the heavens)
Interesting?
It would do you good to realize that the Hebrew language is not close to English. It would also do you good to realize that English is not the best language to translate Hebrew into.

The Hebrew can mean a flat circle, but it also means a sphere. The Hebrew word translated "circle" is the word "chuwg," (Pronounced khueg) which is Strong's Reference #2329. It is a masculine noun, and means circle, circuit, or compass.
According to Gesenius' Hebrew Lexicon, it means a circle or sphere, used of the arch or vault of the sky. (See Proverbs 8:24, Job 22:14, & Isaiah 40:22.)
EDIT: I see Tuberoot beat me to the answer! Kudos!

No, the bible does not say the world is flat because the bible never intended to make any scientific claims. The bible is a spiritual book that teaches profound spiritual truths. I think you're just going drive yourself crazy trying to decipher scientific truths from a spiritual book. I would advise you to look for the spiritual meaning of those verses.

Absolutly NOT!
When God uses these terms, he is refering to the fact that he is BIGGER than everything.
The ends of the Earth, cannot be determined. Yet God is bigger than these!

Luckily, most of us aren't so literal that we don't know that the "four corners" mean north, south, east and west. Even ancient people got it.
