I feel like I've had this false premise that christians should be above certain "worldly" attributes like greed, prejudice or what not, but I'm again and again saddened by the contrary. If fact, I sometimes want to step back into my own solitude just to escape the company of christians because of this overdriving false-ness. Does anyone else experience this? Or feel this way?

Does your everyday life bring glory to God?
Do people see the Holy Spirit in you at work and witnessing to others, or do you leave the theatrics at church?
Looking for honesty, just want to see where people's hearts are, if humble or not.

I basically asked this question before: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiYhIjBOnWizp8wSlL66CYjsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071104164418AAkgsTl

But most answers entirely missed the point, so I'm trying again.

I'm trying to Understand How my husband can simultaneously be highly intelligent and logical, and also be Christian. When we discuss philosophy, his stance always ends in "faith." Meaning, his beliefs are no deeper than faith. He just... believes its the right version of reality, with no evidence for it.

What I'm good at is proofreading. Gimme a document, and I'll find any errors or inconsistancies, or alternative interpretations. Fellow college students loved me. With this talent, I found (without aid) the flaws in the Bible. Having shown these to my husband... he still doesn't waver.

As a side note, I am not a sheep (look in add details in other ?), and chose that word because of the bible.

In short: what depth exists within Christianity?

*see details*

I have read numerous posts saying what "Christians" believe and don't believe, and most of them by protestants (who usurp the name "Christian" unto themselves). My questions is: How can you say what Christians believe? Here are some simple facts:

The total number of Christians in the world is: 2.1 billion. This is how it breaks down:

1) Catholics: 1.3 billion
2) Eastern Orthodox: 0.4 billion
3) Protestansts (Baptists, Lutherans, etc. etc): 0.4 billion

In light of these statistics, how can a group that represents less than 25% percent of Christians say what Christians believe? And, more than that, among themselves they argue endlessly because that small group is divided into hundreds of "denominations" who all disagree on doctrines. Yet they claim that the Holy Spirit guides them when they read the Bible, THE BIBLE THAT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH GAVE THEM. The arrogance is stupifying. I really would like to hear someone try to answer this question.

The things that Christians say make Jesus special are the Virgin Birth, the Crucification, and the Resurection. Yet looking through History around the world there are the same stories about all of those things tied to other Deities. Deities that came long before Jesus.

Horus and Osiris from Egypt
Odin and Thor from Scandinavia
Attis, Ixion, Adonis, Prometheus, and Dionysis from Greece
Mithra from Persia
Baal and Taut of Phenicia
Krishna, Indra, and Budha Sakia, Deva Tat of India
Adad of Sumeria
Beddru and Mikado of Japan
Fohi and Tien of China
Atys of Lydus
Xamolxis of Mexico

And on and on. Why do Christians see Jesus as unique when it's obvious he's the same as all the other Deities that came before him?

(2 Thessalonians 2:1-12) . . .However, brothers, respecting the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we request of YOU 2 not to be quickly shaken from YOUR reason nor to be excited either through an inspired expression or through a verbal message or through a letter as though from us, to the effect that the day of Jehovah is here. 3 Let no one seduce YOU in any manner, because it will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness gets revealed, the son of destruction. 4 He is set in opposition and lifts himself up over everyone who is called “god” or an object of reverence, so that he sits down in the temple of The God, publicly showing himself to be a god. 5 Do YOU not remember that, while I was yet with YOU, I used to tell YOU these things? 6 And so now YOU know the thing that acts as a restraint, with a view to his being revealed in his own due time. 7

Okay, it's random but my dad was watching a show about the Spanish Inquisition and there's been Holocaust documentary commercials lately and then I started thinking about everything else.

And if this is going to get deleted than that's just retarded because I'm Jewish.

I was raised Baptist, so I never was exposed to anyone speaking in tongues, nor did I think it was still even an available gift.

The verse in the Bible that talks about how only 3 spiritual gifts will be left (Faith, Hope, and Love) is the basis of our anti-tongue theory. We think they were gone when the Bible was completed (since the whole reason for tongues in the first place was to spread the word in all kinds of languages. ANd now that "that which is perfect has come" we don't need tongues anymore..)

Anyway, aside from denominational doctrine, I have seen many of my friends (who wouldn't just make it up) speak in tongues.

SO..my question is...IS it still around? I am a saved child of God and I would love to know if I am missing out on this gift which so many people I know seem to cherish.
