I am building my 1st Sukkah this year. I know there are to be 2.5 walls and the top is to be covered (sparsely enough to see stars) with sticks, leaves, organics.

But any experience you have to share (what materials, any insight) on sukkas would be really appreciated.

Blessings in HaShem

Yet dismiss the burning times when they burnt people alive?

Isn't this no better than when the Christians were prosecuted?

Why does "saving" have anything to do with Jesus and religion? Could I have been born saved so I wouldn't have to worry about the Jesus part? I just want to live my life without sin and still go to "heaven".

There's a person that I got to know. She's very smart and seemed ok. Until she said, do not bring God into any conversation. That's when she told me about her believes in "Chaos". She really belives in it so much that she has a tattoo of the star of chaos (black star with four arrows, pointing four ways). I really like her but, that's a little to strange. Should I be concern?

You know the mean angry God of the old testament. If HE was a man, and said and did those things HE would find himself out of his weight class while I WHOOPED his silly ****. But he's gone and there's a new more warm and fuzzy God in the New Testament

If the Europeans had not stopped the incursion of Islam into Europe, what would our world be like today?

Would we have had an Italian Renaissance?

Would there be a Mosque were the Parthenon now stands? That has happened in Egypt where the Muslims took stones from ancient Egyptian monuments to build their Mosques...

What about the Pantheon or the Colosseum, would there be Mosques there as well?

What about all of the beautiful architecture, art, and music that came out of Europe, would we have that?

What about Shakespeare, would we have had that?

What about the United States?

AGAIN< THIS NOT TO BE OFFENSIVE, I AM WELL AWARE OF THE TERRIBLE ATROCITIES THAT OCCURRED DURING THE CRUSADES....

I AM IN NO WAY DOWNPLAYING THEM...

IN ANY WAR THERE ARE MANY ATROCITIES...

I have always wondered what exactly "Turn it all over to God".means .I guess it is pretty much self- explanitory, but I was obsessing over some minor problems and someone on yahoo answers told me to "turn it all over to God". I would LOVE to do that, but don't really know how. Everytime I have tried to do that in the past...I wind up obsessing again. So, someone please tell me how I release it all to Him. Thank you everyone.

How do you feel when (or if it has never happened to you - how would you feel) someone dislikes your answer so, as a way of censoring your opinion, they block you and, therefore, disallow you to view their question in the future.

I ask you in the religious section because I know religion is all about censorship, so I figure the religion section probably has a large number of religious types censoring people.

I was just censored by a Muslim (♫♡ﷲMuslimah), because I told her that her prophet Muhammad had sex with little kids (which he did).

Anyway, isn't this just another way for people to censor opinions that harm their precious view of the world?

You see people spouting on about adultery and homosexuality as they believe the bible says that they are abominations, but (from any view point) rape is far worse than both of these put together, why is rape not so bad in the bible?

If you are going to start an answer with "the bible says" please include references.

I see people here referring a lot to Atheist-agnostics and Theist-agnostics. The general consensuses seems to be that a person claiming to be an Agnostic has to be one or the other; either they don't believe we can know if a god exists or not, but generally believe one does, or they don't believe we can know if a god exists or not, but generally believes one doesn't.

But I'm really in the middle. I don't believe we can know if a god exists or not, and that's all I believe. Furthermore, I don't believe the existence of a god matters at all to us in our daily lives. We spend way too much time debating and searching and praying and proving, and not enough time living.

So what am I?

I do not believe in the existence of God. Thus, I believe the spirit that animates us during life ceases to exist at death. I wonder if we atheists suffer loss more because we do not believe in an afterlife and the possibility of seeing our kindred spirits again.

The knowledge that this life is all we have makes me want to be all the better a person and to treat others well because it is the only life they will have too. Mortality is a common denominator and should be all the more reason for people to treat others better.

It has been eleven years since I lost my younger brother. At the time I was agnostic and prayed and hoped fervently both before and after his death. Eleven years later, the memory of him has dimmed a great deal, and so has the heartache.

Ohhhh...how I want to believe in seeing him again, but nothing on earth has ever given me evidence to hope. How to we cope?

i know that i am guilty of this. i read the answers of the fundies, and the christians, and the pagans, and of course, being an atheist, the atheists. i have tried to cross boundaries to try to get some kind of response from many folks here on r/s. and yet, here it is. agree with the response......maybe thumbs up. disagree.. thumbs down. If you know that person and they aren't too bad,, no thumbs either way,,,,,, but, if you know that person does not believe what you believe, thumbs down. and maybe a report sent. i think, i don't know, i could be wrong, that although atheists on r/s are my brethren, some, could at least read the questions that these turkeys are asking before they dis it, or read the answers that some of our fellow supposed atheists are giving before giving a thumbs up. last night, i received some rather distressful e-mail from a fundie named "sofia". i read her trash, and then thought of similar e-mails i had received on the atheist end of the spectrum.

To be true, I'm agnostic. I don't know which side to pick.

its like this:
Freud argued that man created God in our image, he supported this by his dream research and Oedipus complex
on the other side, Lewis argued that man was created by God in His image, he supported this by "man's desire for joy and the ability to use imagination"

I don't know. I wanna hear other people's opinion.

I'm just sick of all these straight people who have sex before marriage and commit adultery pointing fingers at gays. Ever since the 60s when the majority of people decided "hey, it's totally ok to screw whoever I feel like with no commitment", and decided it was ok to get a divorce under ANY circumstance even when they have kids and are just too lazy to work out problems they're capable of working out, our society has experienced many many problems. Unstable relationships, cheapened bonds, crumbling societal stucture, STD epidemics, fatherless children...most of these problems were caused by HETEROSEXUAL sins, not gays. Have any of you hypocrites even picked up a Bible in your life? If you did, maybe you should take some of Matthew 7:3’s advice and look at the wood beam in your own eye instead of the speck that is your brother’s.

Why do you like to suffer so much at the hands of us atheists?
Are you trying to emulate your Idol Jesus? I like to see you all bleeding from your conscience. It does you good indeed.
That's one way of repenting from your sins.
Keep providing the firewood for your own sacrifice.
God, some people never learn.
