I could never follow any path that tells me faith holds more value than works.
The fact christians tell me ghandi is in/going to hell, but any serial killer who accepts jesus will get heaven is so offensive to my senses words can not convey the sentiment

You can not keep from sin. It is about your faith and not of your works. If you are a good person and do not believe in Jesus you will not enter heaven. You can not be born saved but you are born into sin and sin is not imputed onto you until you have knowledge of it.
Jesus shed his blood for you to cover your sins : past, present and future.
Why Jesus died For Us
He is our sacrificial lamb who shed his blood to cover your sins: past, present and future. If not he died at the cross in vain. He full filled (Luke 24: 44) and nailed the 10 commandments to the cross (Colossi ans 2:14). Christ did not die in vain (Galatians 2: 21). The spirit or the works of the law (Galatians 3: 2). Christ is the end of the law (Romans 10: 4). The law is our tutor no more (Galatians 3: 24 – 25). God will remember your sins no more (Hebrews 10:17). You are a sinner for life, there is nothing that you can do not to sin (1 john 1: 7 - 10). You can not go out into the world and do what ever you wish, just because Jesus covered your sins (Romans 6: 1 - 3). Hebrews 8: 7 – 13 (he wrote the laws into their hearts, so that you would know right from wrong.
If you have faith in Jesus and are obedient to God, then you are not under the 10 commandments.
If you do not believe in Jesus, then you are under the 10 commandments, now you need to bring your unblemished goat to the alter every year and sacrifice it to cover your sins but with Jesus, he is our new covenant.
You are justified by faith and not of your works
DO THE WILL OF GOD
You need to find a home church, be obedient, follow his word, be baptized with the holy spirit, show your self approved and do the will of God (Mark 16: 15 - 18)

"Why would I have to be "saved" in order to be a good person?"
The aim is not to be good, it's to be saved - have peace with God. If you do anything 'good' you can give the credit to God, which is what we Christians tend to do.
"Why does "saving" have anything to do with Jesus and religion?"
It has to do with the Greek word, 'soteria' or 'soterion'. Within those words are many meanings, which count as promises from God. Jesus said that if you believe in him, you will be soteria. That is: have peace with God, safety, prosperity, victory over your enemies. Being saved through Christ includes becoming one of His children, as the Roman letter makes clear, those who are saved are 'sons of God' through adoption. Citizens of a heavenly realm. We are separated from the rest of the world because of all of this, and will not suffer the wrath of God or the 'second death'.
"Could I have been born saved so I wouldn't have to worry about the Jesus part?"
Maybe, but no one else was.
"I just want to live my life without sin and still go to "heaven". "
Me too. I hate sin. Unfortunately I am a sinner. So I sin. And according to Jesus, everyone else is a sinner. So the Jesus part is the only way.

The Bible tells us that we have all sinned, and are therefore separated from God (Ecclesiastes 7:20; Romans 3:23).
How can this problem be solved? Jesus is the way! Jesus took our sin upon Himself (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus died in our place (Romans 5:8), taking the punishment that we deserve. Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead, proving His victory over sin and death (Romans 6:4-5). Why did He do it? Jesus answered that question Himself, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). Jesus died so that we could live. If we place our faith in Jesus, trusting His death as the payment for our sins - all of our sins are forgiven and washed away. We will then have our spiritual hunger satisfied. The lights will be turned on. We will have access to a fulfilling life. We will know our true best friend and good shepherd. We will know that we will have life after we die - a resurrected life in heaven for eternity with Jesus!

1) it's not possible to live without sin. Have you ever lied? Have you ever said anything offensive to someone else? Have you ever looked at a woman with lust? Etc....
In broader terms, the word "sin" literally means "missing the mark" as in, missing the point of what God intended for you to be.
2) Being saved is not about being "good" anyway. It's about being forgiven.
It's like this: America is about to fall into the sea. Your only way of escaping is to swim to Hawaii. You're standing on the edge of California with others, ready to make the swim. Some are out of shape and others are Olympic swimmers. Kinda doesn't really matter how good your swimming skills are, does it? NOBODY is good enough to swim to Hawaii. But look, there's a guy with a boat. Just accept his free gift of a "ride" to Hawaii, and you're saved! See how being a good swimmer doesn't matter?
But you'll be grateful to the guy with a boat for letting you on board, so you'll naturally want to treat him with respect. That's a basic overview.

A person can't merit Heaven on their own accord. No one can be good enough to go to Heaven because to go to Heaven means a person has to be sinless, perfect. Sinless, never committed even one sin and never did anything wrong. Think of the very best person you know or have ever heard of. Have they ever sinned? I assume you have heard of Billy Graham. He is probably the best and most well known preacher of our time. Billy Graham would tell you that of his own accord, he could not go to Heaven. Jesus stands for everything that's good. Jesus NEVER sinned. Jesus has imparted His sinless self to us. When sinless Jesus died on the cross He took all the sins of all mankind with Him so those sins would be taken away and God would see us as holy, sinless, and able to go to Heaven. Not because of what we did, but because of what Jesus did. It's up to us to have faith in Jesus, honor Him, and live the kind of life He desires we live. If we could get to Heaven by ourselves, because we're good people, then it would mean that Jesus died for nothing. Jesus died to save us but if we can save ourselves, Jesus wouldn't have had to die. But-we can't be good enough, we can't save ourselves, and Jesus did die to save us.

If the Christian God is really the way they claim he is, then he is cruel, merciless, immature, egotistical, self-centred, bad tempered & completely intolerant. Personally, if I have to pander to the wants of such a being in order to get into heaven, so I can spend the rest of eternity telling him how good he is (which would basically be lying, so I'd be sinning in heaven), then sign me up for Hell. It can't be that much worse!

NOBODY WILL SAVE YOU . YOU'RE IN CHARGED OF YOUR LIFE !!!
Jesus came to show you how to live.
For example :
Some guys tried to throw stones to a prostitute.
Jesus stopped them by saying something like who is so clean and no sin throw it first.
Well to me, it's to stop mass punishment wildly in the street. So he saved that woman from brutalism.
( Here in my country, in some places, when they found somebody guilty, something like adultery, people gathered together break the door knocked and beat the couple on site.)
Not Jesus as person in person who save us,( that's paganism,) but Jesus as person show how we can save ourself. He showed us by sample, by his action/deed.
When you read Bible, read what Jesus did. I was surprised that in a country like the US or all developped country, things what happened here in the villages occur.
Here in the villages, instead of reading the Qur'an , translate it and try to understand what's the teaching behind it, some people copy the verses, stick it on top of front door or put it their purse/wallet, believing that those verses will save them.
It's not different then people here in the US, intead of reading what Jesus did, they buy Jesus's painting or sculpture and hang it on the wall and think they are saved by Jesus.
So, YOU'RE RIGHT .
See what are classed as sins, try avoid that.
Even just to acknowledge a sin, means you acknowledge a teaching.
The good teaching come from THE GOOD.
It's so simple.
Good luck. Have a nice day anyway.

You will never be a good person. Only God is good! Do you know the word of God? You can never live your life without sin, that is why God gives us grace and mercy.
You want to go to heaven. it takes a relationship with God!
Luke 18.
Can one live their life without God?
God gives to the just as will as the unjust.

No one has EVER gone to heaven because they were a good person. That has nothing to do with it. Many "good" people will not get into heaven because they have chosen NOT to. God will not FORCE someone to go to heaven against their will. God has allowed us to CHOOSE Him or REJECT Him.
John 14:6
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
