I wish there was some way to give double points. I've read a few answers that are right on target. You know who you are.

Enoch and Elijah, neither of them died, Enoch simply walked into Paradise with God, and Elijah went up in a Firey Chariot. So whereas it is appointed to man once to die and they have not died they will I believe be the ones/

Like quite a few who've answered here I too believe it could be Enoch and Elijah who have never tasted death but were raptured. But since the Bible is silent about the identity of these two witnesses I'm afraid there is no point in speculating who they are. God may just choose two hitherto unknown saints and empower them with this special mission as described in Revelation 11.

There are three people to choose from and that's all . Enoch, Moses and Elijah.
Elijah some call the greatest of prophets brought the Holy spirit with him.
Moses brought the law.
Enoch didn't really bring much except absolute belief in his God.
So I have to go with Elijah and Moses.
both of these two also had to contend with plagues and all of that.
The two witnesses will use fire and plagues to protect themselves for the three and a half years they will preach..

The two witnesses are the Spirit and the Word. The bible says in Revelation 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

In recent history they have lain in the street of that great city where our Lord was crucified, that city found without the gate.

Hebrews 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

The city is the world, and when the ministry of the body of Christ here on earth is done then the world will see the witnesses rise to their feet. Revelation 11:11 And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.

Revelation is a highly symbolic rendering - it is a vison after all. The two prophets represent all the OT prophets and the NT saints and martyrs.

Three days is the same as 1,260 years in prophetic language and that is how long the gentiles exercised control over the church during the Roman Empire.

Revelation is a done deal.

Mathews 17: 10 - 13 states that Elijah is going to restore all things. The other I do not know.

Three are believed to be popular candidates:

Enoch, who never died and was taken away by G-od. ( Genesis 5:24)
Elijah , who never died and was taken up to heaven by a whirlwind. (II Kings 2:11)
Moses, who was seen with Elijah speaking to Jesus.

I agree with cowboy_christian_fe… except Elijah was taken by a whirlwind, not a fiery chariot.....:-) :-) :-)

2Ki 2:11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
