However, you *must* spend it on cosmetics. If you don't, I'll take it back and I'll also torture you.

Deal?

I'd like to hear from people who have found a religion different than the one they were raised with, though all people are welcome to answer. I want to know if it's something specific that convinced you, or maybe you just liked something about a certain religion and wanted to be a part of it. Please, no hate or anti-anything here. This should be about sharing.

Can we really find Love outside ourselves?

2007-09-22 20:04:46 · 9 answers · asked by Valerie C 3

You know the feeling; you see just the oddest glimpse of skin, a scanty outfit and suddenly that mindset creeps up on you. Your pulse rate increases and you casually try to resist, when in reality you know you're going to give in. You know all the logic - you're only hurting yourself, it's a waste of time, it's a sin - but that doesn't help. No amount of logic is going to stop you. Truth is, someone could walk in and say "masturbate and you're going to hell, automatically", and you could know he was absolutely correct, and it still wouldn't stop you. You're too weak to resist it.

How can you control it? How is a guy supposed to deal with it? We know it's not right, all the porn and dirty images, yet when you're in that moment it's the hardest thing in the world to get away from. How can you get away from it? How can you resist it?

(this is not a rambling monologue, I'm legitimately asking)

(please, no 'there's nothing wrong with it!' answers - you aren't helpful)

wouldn't that mean everyone else who doesn't believe in your god is also immoral? since they are receiving their morality from what you would call a false god, you couldn't very well argue that they are any more moral than atheist since the claim is that morality only comes from your god.

false prophecies?

Although claiming to be a "prophet" organization, the Watchtower Society has set forth false prophecies.

One of them: The Watchtower Society (WS) predicted that 1914 would mark the owerthrow of human governments and the full establishment of God's kingdom on earth.

Does it seem to you that Christianity has become diluted without a blood overing? We went from sacrificing family members to sheep and now we merely stop eating red meat during lent. I wonder if God missed the good ol days as well. I realize most of us simply don't have the space to roast a family member in the backyard or patio but is a cat or gerbil asking too much in the name of God?

The Watchtower Society has changed its postion on important issues.

For example vaccination was forbidden by WS for 20 years.

And organ transplants were forbidden for some 13 years.

I think that you can live forever, if you want, and if you are loving. Then your kids will remember you, and tell their kids about how great you were, and their kids will tell their kids about you, and the next thing you know, you have been immortalized.
But, what if you say to your kids, " I am ashamed of you", what will your remembrance be? Will your grandchildren love you , or your great-great granchildren ever remember your name?
My grandmother, Gloria, had a picture of an unknown relative hanging over the bed in the guesthouse. It was a "serious" picture, and she used to say " now go to sleep, or Uncle Richard will get you", and all I could do was look at that picture, and see those eyes looking directly at me. I knew gramma was right. No, I couldn't sleep, but, yes, I was very quiet, under the gaze of an unloving creature.

Acts 26:1: A·grip´pa said to Paul: “You are permitted to speak in behalf of yourself.” Then Paul stretched his hand out and proceeded to say in his defense...

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Christ as Lord in YOUR hearts, always ready to make a defense before everyone that demands of YOU a reason for the hope in YOU, but doing so together with a mild temper and deep respect.

(Please bear with me, fellow atheists. I'm asking from a Christian perspective.)

If, after 6,000 years *cough* God STILL hasn't forgiven Eve - as evidenced by the fact that the entire world is still suffering from her sin - what could possibly make anyone at all think that God will forgive anything or anyone? If he can't forgive a lady for eating a piece of fruit 2,000 years ago, is he even capable of forgiveness?

Whatever miracle he produced, people would react in the same manner they did 2000 or so years ago.

Jesus brought people back from the dead yet they still shunned him.

I have a request of everyone here: Please don't ask questions or give answers as a means of attacking others.

Whenever I visit R & S, I am troubled because, while there are those who are genuinely seeking truth, there are many, many others who are using their beliefs and skepticisms as weapons against others.

Please, if you do not know the answer to a question, do not make something up or play around with the asker. Christians, this applies specially to you. These are people's lives that you are affecting when you answer their questions. Please respond in love. Sometimes that means not answering; other times it means taking serious time to consider a question and research it. It is better to say nothing than to mislead.

I am not here to judge anyone or point fingers. I am just someone that wants those who are really asking questions here to get real answers. Please consider this and respond with your opinions, as you will.

May God bless you.
