I was reading that Jehovah's Witnesses believe that 144,000 people will rule with God in Heaven. And that all others will live in paradise on earth one day.

This is generally not believed by mainstream Christians (protestants, catholics, anglicans, orthodox, etc)

Yet the number '144,000' is in the Bible.

Can someone tell me where this number appears, and what it means? Does it really refer to the number of people that God will take with him? If not, then what does it mean?

This is based on the Christian Bible. Is there considerable Biblical evidence that Christ did have a pre-existence? What are some prophecies? Was Jesus from Heaven first or was He born on earth? I believe He came from Heaven.

And if so, what is God symbolism for? Despite the literal questionability of the bible, do you think these are good analogies for certain elements of mankind's societies or is being literally correct more important?

as I am packing my goods into the car trunk ,two young men came greeted me and told me they where Mormons! they told me they where greeting ppl and educating them on their religion , nothing more! I told them with tact that I would not be interested in their religion and because I was an Atheist. they where very sweet about it and said if I would ever change my mind I could contact the nearest church for Info! they also said I was the nicest person they had met today(lots give them crap) and shook my hand and that of my son with big fat smile on their face! they wished me peace and health and told me God bless! they waved and went on to the next ppl!
are Mormons christians?? - If they are they have to be the nicest christians on the planet!
have you ever been aproached by these kind of kids??
what was your experience??

I've ALWAYS believed in God. I know He got me out of some very rough situations I'd gotten myself into. But I'd always been I guess "luke warm" with my faith.

Well recently something changed in my heart. Very drastically. I no longer drink, I quit cussing and I feel very strong in my feelings to devote my life to God. Not to sell all my things, but to be open about it and to talk about Him. I often find myself just scared and I even cry. I have no idea why either. Something in me has changed.

My question is, is there anyone (Pastor's in particular) who can guide me?

Thanks

God bless ;)

"Blessed children, though you wander love and depraved. Jesus loves you, you shall be saved..."

See, I think if we, Christians, of all faiths start saying that instead of condemning non-believers, they would be more open to the church. Not nesscessarily accepting of the church and what we believe, but they wouldn't really have the stereotype of Christians constantly damning them to Hell and judging them...right?

Shouldn't we do what Jesus said and spread the good word, but not in a forceful way? I think this would be a good way. Make it like a national saying...like Mormons have "choose the right" and stuff like that...(I am not sure of other sayings, I only know that cause my friend says it all the time.)

This could be like in the late 90's...the W.W.J.D bracelets and stuff...everyone knew that saying and knew about the saying. But instead of just asking "What would Jesus do?" we would be spreading His word in a peaceful, not forcing way...

reasearch, or is it just a group of people who put their fingers in their ear and go "lalalalalalalalala" and the Scientific Community is having a rational conversation.

Many Christians have asked me why they should even continue living if God does not exist. They claim that if God does not exist, then our lives have no meaning or purpose. Why is that such a bad thing????? Why can't you make your own purpose to life. Why does life have to have some divine purpose. You can still help other people even if God does not exist. You can become a doctor and take care of people, you can help the poor by giving to charity, there is lots of things to can do to make the world a better place. Even if God doesn't exist, isn't it good enough for you people knowing that you have left this world a better place.

I'm very sad and am low spirit because my parents keep saying no about me going to JW meeting. I told my parents that I want to visit to JW congregation for once but they are afraid that I might abandon or lost my interest in Catholic faith if I went to JW meeting... Please help. I'm not very happy with my parents right now. I'm kind of mad at my parents because of that. What can I do?

My mom told me she once read an article that says that blurred lights in an otherwise good photo are signs of an angel passing by. I have one such photo of people praying and I want to write about it, so I'm researching. However, I can't easily find one such article in Yahoo. Thanks for the help.

I don't really understand what that means. I am a Christian myself and am a bit paranoid that i've committed that sin (athough i doubt it), so i was wondering if anyone can clarify?

Thanks, and i'm getting tired of non-believers posting offensive comments, so just don't do it. If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. Act mature. =)

Thanks, and God bless!

and how would he regard Muslims of present day? What do you think he would have to say about terrorist jihadists like binladen?
How would Christ feel about the way Americans and Christians treat Muslims today?

I'm asking how Christ would feel NOT how you feel, please try to be objective.

I can think of nothing creepier than this -- yet you believers claim that you want this, you need this, you would die of loneliness if you didn't have this.

For pity's sake -- why?

I know that suicide is a selfish thing and I can't find anywhere in the bible for God forgiving anyone for this sin. I have tried more than 5 times and yet haven't succeeded. I was also a cutter through out the time. I was getting therapy for this, but I stopped. I can't even forgive myself for being the way I was and for myself not forgiving myself. Will he forgive me?

The Roman Catholic church, "by her own inherent God given power and authority" "being infallible", why then did Rome reject or question the inspiration of James and Hebrews , then later accept it?
Conversely, Rome accepted as scripture books that were later rejected.
If the Catholic church really is illuminated by the Holy Spirit so that men can trust her as "God's organization", why was she so wrong about something so simple?
Should Not the "Holy See" have known?
