Many Christians have asked me why they should even continue living if God does not exist. They claim that if God does not exist, then our lives have no meaning or purpose. Why is that such a bad thing????? Why can't you make your own purpose to life. Why does life have to have some divine purpose. You can still help other people even if God does not exist. You can become a doctor and take care of people, you can help the poor by giving to charity, there is lots of things to can do to make the world a better place. Even if God doesn't exist, isn't it good enough for you people knowing that you have left this world a better place.

No purpose, no meaning, no meaning = death

If you lose the thrill in something, do you continue to do it? If so, why?

BTW...you contradict your own question. Why become a doctor? Your purpose was to become a doctor to help people, correct?? To work and care for the poor is a purpose, is it not?? My "purpose" would be for the world to be in a better place, correct??

If there is no purpose to your life, then there is no point to your living and you have no worth. We may say verbally that our life has no purpose, but we cannot live that way because it would drive us to suicide or insanity.

You say, "help other people", "help the poor", "make the world a better place", but these things are purposes. In one breath you deny purpose and in the next breath, you give yourself purpose.

Are "help other people", "make the world a better place", etc. real purposes or just something you invented to help make you feel good? If they are real purposes, then they must have come from God. If they are just invented to make us feel good, then it's just self deception - mental crutches - to keep us sane.

No purpose leads to an early dead, or at least an unhappy life... find a purpose... and it doesn't have to be "divine", the ones you mention and similar are fine. Even being the best life-partner that you can be is a purpose worth living...

Of course, there is no evidence that a god does exist. And no one can truthfully say what our purpose here is all about. The most we can do and should do is make our lives as comfortable and as happy as possible and do the same for those we are responsible for and those who we must reside along side of.

You are absolutely right about that. But then your purpose in life is to help others. I am glad that you don't need to believe in God to give your life meaning. More power to you. For me, believing in something bigger than me helps. No, I wouldn't just quit living if God didn't exist, but life would be much more difficult and painful for me.

Life without purpose is fine so long as you're not screwing it up for other people who believe they have a purpose.

My goodness. What a bunch of whiny people.
Tell them to go away and stopping complaining to you about things that are their problem only.
Don't let them drag you down too.
