I've ALWAYS believed in God. I know He got me out of some very rough situations I'd gotten myself into. But I'd always been I guess "luke warm" with my faith.

Well recently something changed in my heart. Very drastically. I no longer drink, I quit cussing and I feel very strong in my feelings to devote my life to God. Not to sell all my things, but to be open about it and to talk about Him. I often find myself just scared and I even cry. I have no idea why either. Something in me has changed.

My question is, is there anyone (Pastor's in particular) who can guide me?

Thanks

God bless ;)

Also, my whole life I've known and even told my mother when I was little, that I knew God had something for me to do. I didn't know what it was, but I've knew this was going to happen.

If you think that God has a purpose for you, then you're probably right! :o) God is calling you, I believe. What you've described is what a lot of famous people who have accomplished great things for the kingdom of God say happened to them when they first felt God calling them to serve Him.

What I would recommend is that you spend as much time praying, reading the bible, listening to Christian radio preachers, and talking to other Christians as possible. The Bible says, "Whatever a person thinks, that's what they are." So, if you put lots of good teaching into your mind, you will be a good Christian! Also, when you read the Bible a lot, God can actually speak to you through it. Just try it, and you'll see. If you do that, then God might be able to show you what He is trying to tell you sooner.

You know that Jesus discipled 12 guys. What you need is somebody to disciple you. The most likely place to find someone to disciple you is church. Go to the church where you feel most comfortable and close to God, and tell a pastor or other leader there that you need a spiritual mentor to disciple you. You can describe how you've been feeling, recently. They may direct you to a Bible study or to a person who can help disciple you. It's preferable if this is an older, mature Christian who is the same gender as you. :o)

There is one thing I should warn you about. It's easy to get really impressed and starry-eyed about how cool and holy other Christians are, and it's also easy to find an earthly leader who will distract you from who your real role model should be--Jesus! Everyone else that you can follow or emulate will reveal at some point that they have flaws, and that can be very disappointing if you are trying to be just like that person. What we, as Christians, should try to do instead is understand that we can learn a lot from other people and the good things they do, but NOBODY is perfect like Jesus was. "For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God." I just wanted to share that with you, to hopefully keep you from getting bummed out that the pastor you like turns out not to be Jesus. All Christians are influenced by Jesus, but we are not completely Him, but merely "the aroma of Christ." :o)

God bless you, and I pray that you find God's purpose for your life soon! I'm excited for you!

I also have a very similar story, I used to take drugs and drink. I have completely devoted my life to Christ. it has been the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me. I will always offer my support if someone wishes to except it. you can email me with what ever questions you have if you like. I am not a pastor but I do take part in bible studies and help run classes for new Christians. Feel free to drop a line if you like.

God bless.

Read the Word, but before you do pray and ask the Spirit to open you eyes of understanding to receive the Truth. Find a Bible teaching church and go hear the Word taught. Calvary Chapel is a GOoD one and in most states/countries. Men (pastors) are just men but the Spirit is real and will never mislead you!

First I would like to give God...GLORY!! Praise the Lord...that's wonderful! I remember when God began to call me. First, if you haven't already...ask God to forgive you of all of your sins and ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart so that he can change you. Also ask God to fill you with His precious Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will help lead and guide you thru this walk called life. I recommended that you seek God by reading his Word and pray everyday. You also need to ask God to direct you to a church so that your spirit man can be built up or fed spiritual food. He does have something great in stored for you! Continue to be faithful to Him and you will see it come to past!

Be encouraged!

You don't need to be involved with a religion to be close to God. Talk to him personally, you don't have to go through anyone els. ask him what it is you are supposed to do and then be alert for the answer. It may come in a way you would not normally expect. You will know it is God talking to you because you will feel that pull on your heart.

I am not a pastor, I have worked with youth.
I would really encourage you to spend time in prayer seeking God. If you have not committed your life to Christ, simply confess you are a sinner in need of a savior. As far as the crying. sometimes when God really begins to work on our hearts, our emotions cannot contain what God is doing in our hearts. Enjoy it, embrace it, sounds like he is tenderizing yoru heart to draw you closer to him.

here is a previous post. hope it applies the same.

its a life long process but its not painful. Quite rewarding actually. First you talk to God. Ask God for his plan for your life. Ask him to reveal him self to you so that you will know him and not some religion of man. I recommend telling the Father that you want to know more about Jesus and what he did for you so that you can receive his gift if you are ready to receive Jesus. And ask him that He will help you receive Jesus as your savior from your separation from God if he is who he said he was if you are not quite ready yet and don't know for sure about Jesus. But thats not the end. It never quite ends you see. There is always more and its an adventure. You also study the Bible for your self and with other people who are diligently studying it. Called Bible study and Gods Church (not a building - people). Over time peoples experiences being shared and you building your relationship with God will increase your faith (a blind leap at first but later build from experience[as in science you test a hypothesis throughly but not foolishly]). You will slowly lose the guilt of self condemnation and fear of not being good enough for God after a while of knowing God. Satan is the accuser of our human race and wants to make us feel we can not come to God and are not good enough. You will encounter in the Bible where it says Jesus left another Gift for you. The Holy Spirit. You can pray for it and in Luke 11 it says God will give it to you if you seek it persistently from Him. You can also read about the Holy Spirit (Gift of God to God's people) in Acts. It is the power of God in us and changes us even further. God will even develop gifts in you later to help others. Don't worry about making it happen. Just seek to know more about God and relationship with Him and it will come naturally over time. God is a patient God and so we must also learn patience. Its a trait of the Spirit. There is also peace, long suffering (means to remember your experiences with God and let that protect you, as in the Shield of Faith, even when under pressure), love, knowledge, wisdom, ect)

God has good plans for everyone. I am glad you are giving him a chance. I have had many awesome experience with God and it has changed my life. Countless testimonies. I share them and get people to share theirs with me. You will hear some stunning experiences and gain your own experiences as you walk with God.
