Yeah, Mormons are a type of Christians, but are labeled as a cult by many types of Protestants even though they are an off-shoot of Protestantism. (They have a prophet who said he had found golden plates that only he could translate that ascended to heaven when he was done.)
The Mormons I have meet have all been pretty nice. I usually shout out at them when I drive past them when they are on their bikes in town. (Nothing mean though.) Part of their religion is that they have to go on a mission trip of sorts. It was very nice for you to be kind to them, even though you don't want to be Mormon. I know many people are rude to them.
I have had a few friends who were Mormons, but 2 of them have left the Church. Oddly, both are now Wiccan! The woman caught a lot of grief from the elders, and I think they expelled her from the Church. The guy just left on his own about a year or 2 after his conversion. The other people that I met that are still with the Church are very polite and nice too.
(It's the Fundamentalist Mormons that I would be wary of though. That's the smaller group that has child brides and polygamist relationships.)

I haven't known too many Mormons. I got to know Cindybin pretty well, when she was active on the Yahoo! boards, but I really don't think she's your typical Mormon...
My neighbor was a Mormon, married to a non-Mormon. They divorced, and she's not my neighbor anymore. She was pretty nice, though. Never tried to preach to me.
I have an online friend that is Mormon. He is very nice, and has sent me my own copy of the Book of Mormon, some of which I've read. He's not too preachy, and we usually talk about non-religious subjects. He plays guitar in a rock and roll band, and is not puritanical.
That's about it! Where I live, nobody proselytizes on bicycles - the houses are too remote, and the temperatures can be brutal.

Yes, Mormons are Christians...you must be careful though...
Those were missionaries they are of the Church Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints...
They ARE Mormon, but you have to be specific when you say "Mormon" because there is the reformed church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints which have a different prophet....and of course the Mormon fundamentalists....aka polygamists...
And yes, they are nice. They're called elders...the girls are sisters. They come to my house every week and talk to me about the faith.
---------------------------------------
OH! And about the bikes, most churches give them a car, but they can only drive so many miles a week, if they've already ran those miles and it's Tuesday, they have A LOT of biking to do this week!!!

Well, I gotta say that I think it's kind of annoying being approached by anyone selling anything (especially religion), even if they're polite about it. But, when they're genuinely friendly and not pushy, it's somewhat less of an unwelcome intrusion.
I've never been approached by Mormons. But the JWs and evangelical Christians who've interrupted my life with their sales pitches have been almost universally pushy and annoying and I've treated them accordingly. Based on your story, I'll give the Mormons the benefit of a doubt and be polite to them if they come around.

Mormons, or members of the LDS fayth, are considered Christian. Anyone that says otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about. To be a christian, one must accept the teachings of Jesus Christ and follow those teachings. This belief is at the very core of the LDS Fayth.
As for my experience with LDS Missionaries, I was once one of them. I served my two year mission in Las Vegas and had a lot of good experiences. You don't need to listen to them, but that doesn't mean you have to be down right rude either.

I was approached by Mormons, two of them, male. They come in twos apparently. Very nice, a pleasure to speak with them. I had in the back of my mind that they sort of marry a multitude of women, and that doesn't go down too well with me, but perhaps it's just a prejudice. I didn't like their "we need to baptise you again" either. Otherwise they are very nice indeed. Won't have them every day for tea though, please, thank you.

Mormons, Seventh day evan, Jehovah's witnesses are all nice people till you study with them for a while and begin to ask questions about why some of their beliefs differ from the holy text that they claim to use as the bases for all their beliefs and works - then things start to change some.

Mormons are not Christians, but they have been fooled into thinking that they are. They believe in a different Jesus than the one in the Bible.
These young missionaries have been deceived and have not been taught the "meat" of the Mormon religion yet. They are genuine young people who have been mislead.
Mormons are usually friendly, loving, and kind people - they are involved in a false religion that distorts the nature of God, the Person of Jesus Christ, and the means of salvation.
