In 1963, Thich Quang Duc, a Buddhist monk from Viet Nam set himself on fire to protest the violence and religious oppression of his own country. He sat in the middle of the street, doused himself with gasoline, and lit it. He then sat quietly and calmly until the flames consumed his body and killed him.

How does your faith compare?

For those of you who are not Buddhists (I'm sure there are at least one or two non-Buddhists in here tonight), how do you feel about Duc's display of faith? How does it make you feel about your own?

Thanks in advance for thoughtful answers.

With all the hurling and exchanges of indifferences, insults, stubborness, I'm sure deep down we all enjoy the presence of each other and are good efriends. If we could get together I'm sure we'll have a whale of a time. Don't you agree?

Now, I know that there are some tv shows that are very bad at portraying alternative lifestyles.... and Wife Swap (and other reality tv) is EXTREMELY bad at it... but if anyone live on a PST network, A Green Witch and her family are on the TV right now. ABC network.

Hooo Boy.

I'm a pagan... and I know that with watching these things, one really REALLY needs to take a grain of salt.. so I advise all of you to do it too.

Using the Bible to prove god's existence is only valid if we already accept that it alone contains god's words.

But there is no evidence of this.

I asked this before, but I'd like to get other people's views on it.

My boyfriend is half Taiwanese, half Italian. I'm Irish, so I'm "white." My grandparents are very old fashioned and, though they've never said anything overtly, I can tell that they don't approve of us dating because of our ethnic differences. They comment on how "different" we are and have even made snide remarks about my boyfriend's Taiwanese mother (not while he was there, thankfully). My boyfriend and my grandparents have met, but I'm afraid to bring him to family functions because of what they might say or do. It really hurts me that my grandparents, whom I do love, can be so racist.

I also know that, if we get married (it's looking more and more likely, we've been together almost two years), we won't be having a church wedding because I'm an Agnostic (which my grandparents don't know) and he's an Atheist. My grandparents are very religious and might raise a stink about it or refuse to come.

What should I do?

The other day it came to my attention that the Creation Museum was a sick, twisted, traumatizing place - rather than just funny. Today I hear people like this preaching all the time and I wonder... when will it ever end?

I don't hate Christianity. I hate people like this (and Ken Ham, Kurt Hovind, Benny Hinn) who spread terror and rage throughout the Christian community. They should be called out as non-Christians already if you are truly following the practices of Jesus Christ.

Then again, if this is Christianity to some of you, then I must tell you - I am beyond disgusted and I'm going to try to get the museum's license rescinded and people like this moron removed from television. How dare people traumatize their children like this

In churches, are we not surrounded by what all man made? Perhaps unanswered prayers are getting distorted as we pray them through the roof? Or maybe the roof helps to keep the lightening out? Who knows?

Why do many people in this section arrogantly imply that people from other belief systems (whether it is a Christian, Atheist, Pagan, Jewish, whatever) are of lower intelligence than themselves?

I hear so many times, things like... "Oh, anyone who believes that isn't thinking", or "If someone is a (insert belief system), they shouldn't be taken seriously".

Why does it have to be this way? Why do people judge the intelligence levels of other human beings simply because of their religous beliefs? Just because someone doesn't agree with you religously doesn't make them dumber than a bag of rocks. All it really means is that you are being rude.

why do some christians support the death of homosexuals when "Thou Shalt Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself". And why do they feel they have the right to bash other people. Only God is allowed to judge others. And they have no right to judge others sins when they sin themselves. And dont tell me they haven't ever sinned before because everybody has.
