Now, I know that there are some tv shows that are very bad at portraying alternative lifestyles.... and Wife Swap (and other reality tv) is EXTREMELY bad at it... but if anyone live on a PST network, A Green Witch and her family are on the TV right now. ABC network.

Hooo Boy.

I'm a pagan... and I know that with watching these things, one really REALLY needs to take a grain of salt.. so I advise all of you to do it too.

^_^ I'm sorry that this is a re-post. I didn't realize.
Its good to know that other people are watching! It'll make for some good discussion later, eh?

to edhelosa,..
I completely understand how you feel about reality tv shows...
But if you'd allow, I'd like to make two points:
1) its easier for people to understand and accept Paganism if they have exposure,.. Good or Bad exposure. So even if it's a reality tv show, isn't it better than nothing?
2).. now this is the Sex Therapist in me (I am training to become a sex therapist), but there is nothing wrong with two consenting couples doing whatever it is they want to do. "Wife Swaping" is a very old sexual practice, and today, in swaping circles, there are lots of rules and regulations, safety is a high priority, and all parties are consenting. They have all the "Right" in the world to do what they want... no matter how shocking or kinky it is.

I asked a similar question earlier this evening:

And yeah... yikes. I would not want that particular Pagan representing me and mine.

I didn't see this one, but I did see the Trading Spouses with Marguerite "The God Warrior" and a New Age family... and the New Agers came across as being the sane, reasonable ones.

Unfortunately, Marguerite had more "Train Wreck" appeal (much like William Hung, and others who are so bad that you just can't look away...), so she got more publicity.

Again this episode paints Pagans in an unfavorable light. I agree with prariecrow there's no way I would want her representing "us" in any way. They make Pagans look ditsy, selfish, self absorbed, and unaware(when it comes to family). And to me that is the COMPLETE opposite of what Pagans are!

Just the name of that show pisses me off so bad I want to kill someone. I cannot believe a real witch, Traditional OR Wiccan, would participate is such a thing...

F*ck I HATE that show!!!

Hate it.

the very idea of them thinking they have the right to "swap wives..."

Arrrgggh.

lol...I can just imagine. Any "lifestyle" portrayed by Wife Swap is bound to be drawn in broad strokes. Let me guess - hijinx ensue when they swap with fundies.

Those TV shows are just "very bad" in general. They suck.

prairecrow posted a ? about this earlier... apparently its a repeat, and features what others describe as a flakey rep of our community.

Pagans should be portrayed negatively. First there was gay pride now cities are having pagan pride days.....God help us all, and no, not the tree god, Almighty God.
