James killed by the sword.
Thomas was impaled with a lance.
Simon died along with Jude from arrows, spears or crosses
Someone gave Bartholomew a skin-removal process
Some of them were stoned alive like James the son of Alphaeus
A lot of guys were crucified for calling Him Messiah
Philip died and Andrew did and possibly Matthias
Peter's was a most unpleasant death for being Christian
They would turn him upside down and then go through with crucifixion
Paul he was beheaded probably Matthew did the same
Well, they threw off of the temple top the other guy named James

And their story didn't have a chance but none of them were doubting.
Why oh why would someone die if it was just a hoax?
Why then take the awful risk to tell us Jesus raised?
Simple men from Galilee would not have spoken lies
To get enrolled in history books as martyrs for Jesus Christ

Does it surprise/bother you that many people are concentrating on things like abortion and gay marriage, when many of the bigger issues like environment and healthcare are being ignored or being labeled as "propoganda"?

Perhaps it's because I care more about the country (and rest of the world) as a whole, rather than the trivial personal details.

Comments?

I'm a christian, but I've never understood how jesus saved us... can somebody explain it to me?

I've never understood how jesus dying relates to us sinning.

Why did god have to manifest himself on earth as a human and then die to save us? If he's god couldn't he have saved us by just making us saved the same way he made the earth?

I understand it was painful, but there were thousands of people crucified before, and after him, why didn't their deaths "save us from sin"?

Why did he have to be executed to "save" us? Couldn't he have died peacefully?

All humans die eventually, what makes Jesus's death so special?

And i've always thought that if i could save EVERYBODY who would ever lived, ever, then i would let myself to be crucified too... wouldn't you?

thanks

My favorite HBO series "Big Love" shows the struggle of how Mormons today have to hide their polygamy on a daily basis. Officially the church no-longer recognizes polygamous marriages but it was the founders of The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints that brought the practice of polygamy to the Western World and most specifically the United States in the 1830's.

Tom Hanks is the Executive Producer of Big Love and I was wondering if he is LDS. I am sure that LDS is using Big Love as a tool to mainstream polygamous marriages so that if it becomes legal under the law then their church can once again practice polygamy freely without having to have Christians tell them they can't. I am a Christian but if polygamy was recognized as a legal form of marriage in the United States I may begin to think more like a Mormon. After all whilst one wife is having PMS issues you could go to the next but then as the Beach Boys say, "God Only Knows."

I am not a religious man by any means. In fact, I am an agnostic, and while I believe in the other and higher worlds, I am just not religious. But recently, I have been feeling emotions of lament and regret for the way I used to be before I had a change of heart. I would like to confess and ask for forgiveness to someone in this world, and the only people I know will listen is probably a priest. With Catholic priests accept the confession of a man who is not a Catholic?

Mormons where I come from always talk about how there is a special light in there eyes, and spirit about them, and how people outside of Utah are not as happy as them. Can you identify a Mormon by how happy they are and the light they give?

My book of Genesis clearly says that the sun and the moon were created on the fourth day. Is it a common belief that it takes the sun coming up, and going down to define a day?

If you know of any other, more obvious definitions of a day, lay it on me. Try not to get to complex, I'm looking for simple, common, easy to understand definitions that should be obvious to me...but are not...

Otherwise, I'll continue to read the book of Genesis as a wonderfully rich allegory.

My husband and I have been married for five years. We are both Christians, but he is more non-practicing than I am. His two best friends are recently divorced and now single. 4th of July they went to Hooter's for dinner and then to see Transformers. I am really very upset about him going to Hooter's, and in particular, because he lied about it. I am angry, resentful, and incredibly hurt. I have been crying myself to sleep almost every night since then. He has apologized over and over again. I am so upset because we have had numerous, numerous conversations about Hooter's and he knew how I felt. I feel just crushed and deceived. I have heard so many horror stories - about the girls practically flouncing their breasts in their face and the flirting they do for tips. This is a form of infidelity, to me. I have tried to give my pain to God, but it still hurts. I don't think I want to end my marriage, but I feel so dishonored. How can I/we get past this?

A week ago I put out a question asking if there was someone you would just love to meet & without realising it, my contact 'Aum' had put this question out the day before.
I was going to put out a question asking what your favourite yoga asana was, but have just seen that my contact 'yogini' did this a couple of days ago.
I was going to put out a question asking about the positive & negative in people's lives, but have just seen that my contact 'Blonde Sweet Sassy' did this a few hours ago.
There are other examples, but too many to detail.
Are we all communicating through the power of thought?
Has this happened to you with your contacts, or anything similar?

I've seen Pascal's wager here so often, which got me thinking about the converse. What if the light is really a tortuous end to our souls?

I mean how can you tell if a person is holy and good?
Is it by feelings, light, colors?

Example: St. Francis of Assisi, or Padre Pio, or an everyday person that practices the faith.

Anyone who professes to be a Christian cannot look upon those days as long periods of time. The Hebrew word for day(yom) is used 2301 times outside of Genesis. Anytime the word yom is modified by a number;such as 1 st day or second day; or the words morning and evening; it's always translated as a 24 hour day. You need to keep the word in it's syntax. I don't think anyone can translate it as "there was evening and morning, the first billion years". The problem with Christians and long periods of time, the evolutionists say we have 200 plus million of years of fossils. Fossils are dead animals. That means there was millions of years of pain, disease, suffering and death before sin. But Genesis, chapter 3 clearly teaches that pain, disease, suffering and death were the result of sin. Therefore, all the death we see in the fossil record came about after Adam sinned. As Christians, we're looking forward to Christ coming back and restoring Paradise. Do any Christians agree with me?
