When a person asks a question like 'what is your religion?' and all the people answer saying what religion they are, do you give them thumbs down?? If so, why?? Is it coz they are of a different religion than you? Or coz you don't like their religion? What's the reason? Please be honest, I know there are alot of people here who do this, whenever there's a question like that there are also many thumbs down.

Charles Darwin wrote in his book “Descent of Man“, “The chief distinction in the intellectual powers of the two sexes is shewn by man's attaining to a higher eminence, in whatever he takes up, than can woman- whether requiring deep thought, reason, or imagination, or merely the use of the senses and hands.”
“…the average of mental power in man must be above that of woman.”
He also proposes that certain races, namely native Africans and native Australians, are not as “evolved” as the rest of mankind.

Personally, I disagree.

Why the current christians accept and project on others the guilt that jesus died for their sins but the white christians will not accept the guilt of native americans, aboriginals and black slaves who died due to their sins! There they would clearly dissociate it as the actions of their forefathers which donot reflect their deeds, but the same can be said about the people who killed jesus! Why should the current lot live with that guilt?
How is one more logical than the other especially when these instances are more recent than the jesus story?

For example, if I include a belief that by faith alone are we saved, then could I argue that we are free to lie, cheat, steal, murder, etc and none of it matters because as long as we have faith we're going to heaven?

And as long as we say "sorry" after lying, cheating, stealing, murdering then we've shown repentance?

And we can do this over and over and over again because we're flawed humans prone to sin, but that this doesn't matter because as long as we have faith we're going to heaven?

In other words, we don't have to change a single thing we were doing before we became christians, so long as we have faith in Jesus we will go to heaven?

So I can interpret the bible any way I want and call it "Christianity"?

If you have a look at the kkk website, it'll tell you they preach a message of "love, not hate"..........for white, christian America.

Surely this is offensive to most American christians, as it should be.

The klan clearly presents itself as a christian organisation and proudly boasts the support of the supreme court in this claim.

How many christians feel comfortable if someone associates them with the actions and beliefs of the kkk because of their christianity?

Do you really think the overwhelming majority of muslims like being associated with the actions of al-qaeda?

Do you ever notice if you break down the story in the most literal of ways it sounds as crazy and unbelievable as all the other creation myths(the ones you don't believe in)? I mean do you ever stop to think that the people who believed in all the other stories believed in them as much as you do in yours? For thousands of years? They even faught wars to defend their Gods. Do you ever notice the pattern with humans?

With a denomination that does not allow women to serve as priests to a denomination that allows gays to be bishops, can we at least dispense with the fantasy that there is a "clear teaching" in the bible?

The "clear teaching" in the bible has been used to justify:

- burning and drowning old women as witches
- the use of torture to extract confessions from heretics
- the massacre of all Muslim men, women and children in Jerusalem
- slavery
- misogyny
- anti-semitism
- racism
- the divine right of kings
- holy wars against schismatics
- the burning of books

the list is just about endless.

How can anyone claim there is "clear teaching" in the bible without ignoring Christianity's bloody history over what that "clear teaching" is, not to mention the extraordinary diversity of beliefs that various people have claimed to be Christian?

Isn't it true that most Christians arrogantly claim whatever version of Christianity they believe to be true is true for all?

Another member worte this....

"The NT was written by people with a vested interest in making Jesus look like the Son of God"

This person obviouosly feels the NT is a hoax. Written by men
who tried to make the story up.

The fact of the matter is, just about all of these men were given the death penalty, and died a horrible death, for what they
refused to deny..

Now I ask you if they knew what they were saying was a hoax,
would they die for it?

This is much different than the Muslims who blow themselves up, they do that based on somethiing they've never seen,
but believe.

The Christian NT wrirters not only believed in what they
wrote, they were around to see it happen with their own eyes.

If they made it up, why would they be so willing to die a horrible
death for something they made up?

Is it just American christians?

It just amazes me how many answers get posted saying "The signs are all there", "the end of days is coming".

........and just when the world's starting to get a bit more interesting too!

Why do they decide that their own lifetime is so special when it seems Revalations was originally meant to refer to the generation that it was written in?

Is it a tabloid version of bible interpretation, make it more sensational and more people will run with it?

Don't these people enjoy their lives or something?

I've seen answers that claim the bible states the earth is not flat. The respondents use Isaiah 40:22 -
'It is he that sitteth upon the CIRCLE of the earth....'

Do you realize that a 'circle' is a two-dimensional object, therefore flat, and NOT a three dimensional orb, or sphere?

Wouldn't the 'infalible' words of an 'all-knowing, all-seeing' god
use the correct term?

Also, do you not see a difference between the earth being 'suspended'(which denotes lack of movement) as the bible states, and the reality of
gravitational forces which cause the earth to rotate and orbit the sun?

Here's what has come of Joseph Smith's hoax:

- With the exception of some of the Native American tribes, the Mormons were the only group in the history of the U.S. to have a government sanctioned extermination order against them.
- Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were murdered without ever denouncing the truthfulness of Joseph's claims to have spoken to God and Jesus Christ and of the translation of the plates which became the Book of Mormon.
- Oliver Cowdrey, helped Joseph Smith translate the plates was excommunicated but never denied having seen and held the plates. Ten years after his excommunication he requested re-admittance to the Church and was re-baptized.
- 177 years after it's restoration and 153 years after the murder of Joseph and Hyrum Smith, the Mormon church is one of the fastest growing religions in the world today and 4th largest in the United States.

If even God has not the power to change the bible (as demonstrated by the answers to my previous question), and the bible is used to determine which messages come from God and which do not, then isn't it true that Jesus was a blasphemer who tried to change the word of God as it was 2000 years ago.

God told us "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth": Jesus changed that to "turn the other cheek".

God told us not to work the Sabbath: Jesus says its okay.

God laid out lots of rules and laws in the OT which are not honoured or mentioned in the NT (indeed, the rules are mocked by Jesus when he mocks those who carry out the laws God gave them).

The NT was written by people with a vested interest in making Jesus look like the Son of God.

1) Do you believe god has a physical form? If yes, what race/colour do you perceive him to be?

2) If you answered 'no' to the previous question (that god does not have a physical form, but is a 'spirit'), then how do you know that the god of another religion (eg, Islam, Hindu, Jew etc.) is not the same? Couldn't they also be talking about the same god, but just given him a different name? How can you say that if a person does not believe in Christ, they won't go to heaven?

3) Why is god always a man? Can't a woman be god? Because if you refer to god as 'him' 'he' 'his' etc, and that Christ was his son, then doesn't that mean he has a physical form? Thus going back to Q1.
