If you don't believe in a supernatural Creator (not subject to the laws of nature) as the first cause of the material world, then why does anythnig exist at all? Where did matter/energy come from? If you don't believe in a first cause which itself (by its nature of not being subject to the law of cause and effect) was uncaused, then surely the logical conclusion is that nothing should exist.

Gravity and Magnetism CANNOT be explained by science because they provide a force that has no power source. Don't kid ourself Modern science has very few answers. And most of what it purports as fact is mostly theroy. There a list of Science facts that are 200, 100, 50, and 5 years old that are now proven wrong. Modern science is in its infancy, and as with most infants it is loud, thinks it has the answers and wants its own way. Don't be a statistic, open you hearts to the truth.

Gen 22: 1-2,9,11-13 Speaking to Abraham, God "said, 'Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Mori'ah, and and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I shall tell youl'...When they came to the place...Abraham built an alter there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the alter, upon the wood... But the angel of the Lord called down to him from heaven...'Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.'"

If raping female prisoners of war is bad, why does God allow it in the Old Testament?

If Ethnic Cleansing is bad, why does God command it?

Why did we bother intervening in the former Yugoslavia when they were doing such Godly work?

Or are Christians double minded when it comes to God and morality?

I'm not saying it wasn't INSPIRED by your God. But it's not Gods word because he didn't write it. So why put so much faith in a BOOK. Shouldn't it be about Christ? I just don't understand why there is so much debate over a book. And why hasn't God spoken since? No more additions? He doesn't speak anymore? I just don't get it.

I'm a Protestant, and I've heard a number of protestants criticize the Catholic tradition by saying that Catholics believe that they are saved by works and not by faith alone. Is this true, or is it a misunderstanding?

I am a Wiccan, but I believe in all types of theism as symbols for fertility and nature worship- BUT I think there are those of us out there who do really believe in several gods and I am just curious on your take. Do you have the "all gods are one god" philosophy? Do you believe that several gods take an active hand in your daily life? And if you converted from Christianity, Agnosticism, ect did you find it difficult at first to believe?
Just curious, no judgement here. All the pagans I know have some really unique, beautiful takes on spirituality and I would like to know yours. ;)

Gen 19: 31-32,36. "And the first-born [daughter] said to the younger, 'Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of all the earth. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve offspring through our father.'...Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father."

Old Testament: Women were not even supposed to speak in Temple, nor sit with the men. Priests and Rabbis were exclusively adult males. The average person was illiterate.

New Testament (circa 350AD): No real difference from OT times.

It wasn't until circa 1500 AD that educated men could read a bible in anything but Latin. Considerably longer before literacy rates increased to a point where an average man could read the bible in hi own language, and by then there were several translations which disagreed in substance.

From this came the KJV, to end the controversy and give the Church of England one authoritative book, circa 1650.

Did those who wrote the books in the bible ever conceive of the idea that uneducated laymen and women would read these books and decide for themselves what each passage means?

Or was it always their belief that only educated priests and rabbis would read it and interpret it?

For which audience was the bible written?

but lately it seems though I don't want to go to church.I've tried reading the bible and I start out good but eventually I stop reading.I used to love going to church singing in the choir going to the nursing homes and visiting the elderly.I hate saying this but church doesn't

seem to be important anymore.I have been cursing alittle and not praying at night.I have been in church since I was born (I am 20 years). .I don't want to feel like this but for some strange odd reason I do.Alot of events happened in May and I wasn't able to go to church.Well when I walked in to church during the prayer request and he said " One of our prayers as already been answered" then after church he says "I thought you were slipping"? So am I? Am I turning away from God? I dont want to go to Hell.I love Jesus.Do you think the devil is playing with me?Or is it just me being lazy?

This question is in regard to a Best Answer stating that Constantine saw a cross in the sky and decided to make it the symbol of Christianity.

My question is this:

Since the "cross" that Constantine (reportedly) saw in the sky was the Chi Rho cross or an X crossed with a P, why wasn't that made the symbol of Christianity?

Instead the symbol of Christianity is a T-type cross which is a symbol of the executional instrument that Christ reportedly died on, and has nothing whatever to do with the "sign" or the "cross" that Constantine reportedly saw in the sky.

If the Labarum or Chi Rho cross was the cross that Constantine decided to make the symbol of Christianity, who overruled him? Why did the stauros of Jesus become the symbol instead of the first two (Greek) letters of "Christ".

There's so much evidence that there wasn't even a Jesus. I did some research and now I see why some people are atheists. It's so confusing. I'm not even sure I believe in god that much anymore. Maybe the bible and Jesus were just a myth. What do you think.
I posted this question again to get more opinions

according to my dictionary:

Theories are used in non-technical contexts to mean an untested idea or opinion; they are conjectures or speculations. A theory in technical use is a more or less verified or established explanation accounting for known facts or phenomena (ex: the theory of relativity, the theory of evolution).

so, basically, what this means is that in technical use (like science), a "theory" is pretty much fact.

so, why do people keep going "well evolution is just a theory"?

btw--god is also a theory, but not a technical one which makes it fall under the first category of "an untested idea or opinion" and merely a "conjecture and a speculation"

There will be no peace if it is split. And then the END SHALL COME. Zechariah 14 & 12

1 Behold, the day of the Lord is coming, And your spoil will be divided in your midst. 2 For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city shall be taken, The houses rifled, And the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. 3 Then the Lord will go forth And fight against those nations, As He fights in the day of battle. 4 And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south. 10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced,

Of people from different religions criticizing everyone else; and it's not just one specific religious groups, but most treat other people for having different beliefs and ideals like they are ignorant and doing the world harm. Whats wrong with having faith or not having faith? Having a choose in who you worship and how you worship? I'm Christian, but I feel betrayed to read what other christians say to people who are of a different religion, and to the other denominations of Christianity, or to any one who who isn't what they believe to be a "true christian" is.

I was wondering if atheists are fearful of literature which will threaten their disbelief in God. Before you throw this back at me, yes, I have read atheistic type literature and I have also visited atheist websites and, guess what, I used to be an atheist. I challenge you to read "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. He used to be an atheist, too. He began research for his book to DISPROVE Christianity. He learned the truth and is now a Christian. I wonder if you're afraid this might happen to you if you read and learn. I expect to get hate answers from many of you because this has been my experience in the past. You will be very much offended at my "arrogance" and are so blinded by sinful pride, you don't recognize you own arrogance. You will accuse me of intolerance and, again, you don't recognize intolerance in your way of thinking. You will call me ignorant, but I have been willing to learn. It's alright. I used to be the same way. No animosity intended, I'm just being honest.
