the difference in theory and theory?

according to my dictionary:

Theories are used in non-technical contexts to mean an untested idea or opinion; they are conjectures or speculations. A theory in technical use is a more or less verified or established explanation accounting for known facts or phenomena (ex: the theory of relativity, the theory of evolution).

so, basically, what this means is that in technical use (like science), a "theory" is pretty much fact.

so, why do people keep going "well evolution is just a theory"?

btw--god is also a theory, but not a technical one which makes it fall under the first category of "an untested idea or opinion" and merely a "conjecture and a speculation"

Great minds think alike. I feel the same way. Having spent a full two months on evolution, I learned about its intricacies and complexities and that it is not just "survival of the fittest." People that say that evolution is just a theory obviously do not have a sound understanding of evolution; they are people hoping to somehow undermine scientific fact. Like my instructor said, "Evolution has been proven; only its mechanism [natural selection] is still up for debate." However, natural selection DOES make sense.
In short, THOSE PEOPLE ARE MORONS.

Since you never experienced a personal relationship with God your spiritual understanding is non-existent so there is no surprise that you think of God as a theory. You are the only one who can alter that by repenting and turning to God for salvation that will open your spiritual eyes and give life to your spirit which is dead in sin and trespasses.

Evolution is a "hypothesis." Therefore it is a guess or a mere theory. To prove my point I challenge you to explain to me where the base of Darwin's tree has it's roots. In other words,
where did the first life form come from. Darwin evades this issue in his writing because he has no answer for it. Any honest evolutionist would admit they don't have the answer either. The primordial soup won't work! Chemical evolution has already been disproven and complex life forms are now throwing very negative light on the "theory" of evolution. Many
scientists whose studies on evolution are vastly more in depth
than either you or I are stepping away from Darwinianism and
saying it is too full of holes to be taken seriously.

Nobody is going to make a monkey out of me. God created all things, and intelligent design makes tons more sense than evolutionary theory.

You are absolutely correct.
So in essence, when people say "evolution is just a theory" they're really saying "evolution is a fact, but I'm hoping that the people I'm talking to are too dumb and gullible to know that and they'll think evolution isn't true and that mythology is."

Most of the definitions I find for Scientific theory state that the theory must be falsifiable (meaning: to show or prove to be false). So evolution fans, you can prove evolution..can you disprove it? To do so would require an alternate theory for our existence. I don't believe there is one that science recognizes. Is there?
