I believe it has something to do with how some non-Catholic Christian denominations use grape juice instead of wine in their "eucharist". Most, if not all, of such denominations believe the consumption of alcoholic beverages to be an absolute moral wrong.
Be that the case, they see Catholics as sinful alcohol abusers on account of the fact wine is used for Catholic Eucharist.
Of course, Jesus used wine, not grape juice, and said, "Do this in memory of Me." With all due respect to our non-Catholic brothers and sisters, Jesus expects us to use wine at our Eucharistic Liturgies because He used wine at the Last Supper.
Some hard-line anti-alcoholic Christians may go so far as to try and convince you Jesus did not use wine. Despite the fact the Scriptures tell us Jesus used wine, such Christians will tell you Jesus actually used grape juice.
We needn't be Biblical Theologians to see the inherent fallacy. All one needs is a little knowledge of the Jewish culture of the time.
First, grapes was one of the few crops grown in Judah and Israel at the time. From a business point of view, what is more profitable for a grape farmer; using his grapes to manufacture juice, or using his grapes to manufacture wine?Wine of course. Consider how hot it is in the Middle East, and that grape juice would require refrigeration. There was no refrigeration 2,000 years ago, so manufacturing grape juice in the Middle East is both logistically, financially, and practically, improbably. Wine does not require refrigeration.

I have nothing against Catholics, but I think that a lot of people think that Catholics believe that they can drink and/or behave badly and then just ask for forgiveness from a guy and it's all ok. I also remember a joke I have heard about a Catholic man sipping vodka to calm his nerves before public speaking.

It goes back to the insults and bigotry against the Irish who were predominantly all Catholic. It's another LOVING thing the Protestants are so proud of.

Not sure. I would never associate the two.
On the other hand, do you know why you invite TWO Baptists to go fishing?
Because if you just invite one he will drink all the beer.

You'd have to sit in one of the Sunday masses - where the priest does Body of Christ/Blood of Christ - there's real wine in that goblet, and it's strong!
Of course at my church, you're supposed to be offered the sacrificial wine along with the wafer. Our priest rarely did - selfish bastard.
