Why is it that anytime someone mentions "Catholic" all I hear on Yahoo answers is hurtful and prejudice remarks. How sad. You comment on things about the Catholic faith, things which you THINK we believe, but not what we really believe. You have no understanding. I really feel sorry for you. God said, we would be persecuted for our faith...God knows we are persecuted.

1- 1000 monkeys typing non stop for 1000 years could produce the entire works of Shakespeare, but there isn't even an infinitesimally small chance that a higher power exists. None. No chance at all.

2- There was nothing before the universe was created, and the Universe was created from nothing, but there isn't even an infinitesimally small chance that a higher power exists. None. No chance at all.

3-Humans evolved from tiny amoeba in a rock pool (I'm not disputing this, just pointing out the huge odds required for it to happen) to a stage to be able to ponder about a God, but there isn't even an infinitesimally small chance that a higher power exists. None. No chance at all.

4- To explain anomalies in astronomical calculations, you have to believe in something that has never been seen or proven to exist, so we accept that Dark Matter/Dark Energy must be real, but there isn't even an infinitesimally small chance that a higher power exists. None. No chance at all.

You get the idea.

When people first learn that I am an atheist, they ask me if I believe in morals or have morals. I often ask them that if they didn't have a god looking over their shoulder, would they go and rape or kill people because there was no hope for reward and no fear of punishment?

So this goes out to all the Christians, Jews, and Muslims out there: If there is no god, would you go and be "immoral" or would still be moral because it is just simply the right thing to do? Now reflect on your answer to the latter question. Ok, no answer . . . do you think it is possible for atheist to be moral people?

little side note, the two largest philanthropists in the world are atheist . . .

Why did God test Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, knowing that they would fail and sin and death would follow?

Couldn't every person who has ever gone to hell since then have been safe and happy in heaven if only God hadn't gone through with the test?

Since God knew in advance that the test would be failed, yet he gave the test anyway, does that mean he wants people to go to hell?

If Adam and Eve had passed that test, would God have given other tests later "just to be sure"?

Genesis 4:16 Cain left the presence of Yahweh and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

Yes, I know what omnipresence means.

Yes, I know that Cain left the presence of God, not the other way around.

That is not what I am asking.

I am asking, how do you leave the presence of an omnipresent god?

As a spouse, would you still love your husband / wife if they hired said service to "test" you?

(Note to Nighttime Literalists: This is a question about God, not about my own personal spouse.)

FYI, I'm Catholic but I don't care if you make fun of Catholicism! My favorite is Pentacostalism, with their speaking in tongues, and weird services.

Can anyone explain why *I* got called a sicko for asking if it was okay to stand by and watch while a friend's children were murdered, but when I asked the same thing about *God* watching while Job's children were murdered, I got a bunch of answers about how God is perfect and incomprehensible and definitely NOT a sicko?

I just don't get how an action can be wrong for one person when the exact same action is right for a different person, er, God? Isn't morality immutable, regardless of who you are?

I'm Catholic, and would love to make a necklace. But instead of the patron saints, I'd like to have it made of out beads that were blessed by a Priest.

Perhaps special prayers could be said over the beads?

Do things like that exist?

Okay, so I still consider myself a virgin, I wanted to stay one until marrige but my fiance and I are having some problems actually keeping that promise!
I want to know your honest opinion.
I know some people think it's dumb and I should just give up this 'virgin' title that think I hold.
Okay, we have done pretty much everything but intercourse, you know, oral sex.. even gotten very close to intercouse, we have had some very brief 'penetration' episodes but nothing happened..we were just getting too close and it should NOT have happened.
Well, I am not 'broken' yet if that counts. The only two times "it's" ever been in there it hurt really bad and nothing else happend. So I haven't had the whole sex experience.
Would you still say I'm a virgin? I don't think I am! What should I do? I claim to be such a good Christian and now I am a hypocrite! How can I be forgiven and become a virgin again!?
Any advice to STOP being so sexually attracted to each other???

If it would be immoral for me to stand by and watch while children are murdered (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070529211415AAaGjXn&r=w&cp=2&tp=2&tnu=34#all-answers )(you were all quite clear that even considering such a thing would be sick), then why would it be moral for God to do the same thing when he allowed Satan to murder Job's children in order to test his faith?

Satan clearly had to ask for God's permission in the story, and (just as clearly) God gave it. Why is this a loving, moral action on the part of God?
