A lot of times, I imagine it was something like, "Their god's followers shoot us with strange weapons and infect us with vile diseases. Their god protects them from those evils."

I think it is sort of like the time I was tripping my stones off on two hits of windowpane, and I was watching a goldfish swimming around in his little pond, and I was pondering whether or not there was a god, and this really big goldfish came up and swallowed the little one whole.

God is a bigger goldfish.

Pretty heavy stuff, huh?

If they dont believe in the spiritual aspect, just a story about some dude who carried the burden on his own to sacrifice himself rather then do the wrong thing. If they do have a spiritual awareness then they'd probably view it as being true as his message was selfless and peaceful.

their first impression is, " it doesn;t make a lick of sense but if it means you will keep the food, money and education coming, i will believe whatever you want me to believe"

I believe they see it as a tool that the invaders use to strip of them of their dignity. They are, of course, 100% correct.....
