I'm guessing many are afraid of the backlash they'll face from theists. I live near San Francisco so it's really never been a problem for me, but I couldn't imagine being an atheist and living in the South.
More atheists needs to come out of the closet so we can show people there's many more atheists than people think.

I am assuming you mean "coming out of the closet as an atheist".
Well, almost everyone here is a christian. It's a bit hard to admit you don't believe in something that most of the population does. Especially when that said chunk of population can be very very judgemental towards you.

Yeah i assume you may desire to assert that in the time of a fashion. Society quite often isn't very accepting of atheists in the U. S.. it form of feels one might desire to overtly state they seem to be a follower of something like Scientology and get much less crap. it truly is the belief of "nicely a minimum of they suspect in something". as far as getting fired, i do no longer understand that for valuable. I even have many co-workers that once pressed I only tell them flat out i'm an atheist. Calculate the quantity of workplace gossip and that i'm valuable a large majority of human beings I paintings with "understand" yet in addition understand extra clever than to talk it with me. Seeing as I even have been with the comparable job for extremely nearly 10 years i do no longer think of the top administration may be stupid adequate to fireside me as of course my atheism has no longer something to do with my job skills.

Because here we aren't considered on the same level as other citizens. We had a president that thought we shouldn't even BE citizens if we were atheist. It makes it very difficult to be one if people are constantly looking down on you for not believing in god. That's one reason I'm moving to Europe.

Most of my atheist friends didn't have a hard time "coming out" about their atheism, but then again, a few were disowned by their parents. That's a high price to pay. Also, some older atheists have told me that it cost them their jobs when the word got out.

I'd just like to take a moment to thank all the atheists in the world for keeping Jesus Christ's name in the forefront. Whether you believe in Him or not you keep talking about him and making people curious on why you hate Him so much. True, some will follow you but many will accept Him. Thanks again. God bless.
God loves ya man. Whether you accept him or not.
So long Dane's Sweetheart. Buh-Bye!

It's not difficult at all. Do you have some in your closet or something? Let them OUT!

I'm straight, but I never hide the fact that I'm an atheist, if that's what you mean.

Actually, I think it's just easier to not bother correcting people when they assume you are Christian. It does draw some discrimination, though.
