The Earth will exist for another 5 billion years under no planetary collisions or other planet threatening issues before the sun swallows it up. The Earth has also existed for that long. What we regard as "Earth like" conditions have only been around for 10% of the planet's lifespan according to my knowledge. 500 million years! We only really kick-started civilization 40,000 years ago. On the grand scale of time, we are nothing. I cannot understand then how life will cease to continue.

Even if life started from nothing, and we exterminated every living creature, there are still another 5 billion years left to evolve! There are animals living off the very center of the Earth, residing in the deep oceans who shouldn't be effected by things going on here on the surface. In conclusion, I think that if even 99% of animals die, they can always form new species in the billions of years that are left.

Our scientist think it would take at least another 150 million years for an organism like us to evolve to our level of existence once we are gone. Their was an Indian show on the History channel and these Indians predicted the exact date that the WW1, WW2 and Vietnam would start.
