Can anyone explain why *I* got called a sicko for asking if it was okay to stand by and watch while a friend's children were murdered, but when I asked the same thing about *God* watching while Job's children were murdered, I got a bunch of answers about how God is perfect and incomprehensible and definitely NOT a sicko?

I just don't get how an action can be wrong for one person when the exact same action is right for a different person, er, God? Isn't morality immutable, regardless of who you are?

Last ent: Which makes people rather stupid, doesn't it?

Elesia! I've seen the light! It's YOUR fault for looking at god through rational eyes!
You should be ashamed of yourself for questioning the motives behind gods rape and torture of his children.
Go now, and pray for forgiveness. And sin no more!

It is not o.k. to stand by and watch a friend's children be murdered. But we must remember that, in some cases, it can not be prevented.
In the case of Job, God granted permission for Satan to cause all the problems Job endured because Satan falsely accused Job of worshiping God for selfish reasons. The reason God could do this is because he was able to, and did undo all the bad things. He gave Job 10 more children and will resurrect all 10 that died, he gave him back his wealth, and restored his health. When Job is resurrected, though, he will be in perfect health.
Consider this: God is just. So isn't it an act of justice to let someone try to prove his charge, even though you know it to be false?
God is very hurt when he sees all the suffering humans go through. He will fix everything.

God is a all knowing God and us human are not.... He knows the beginning and the end of things human doesn't... Plus when Jesus was crucified HE knew that's what it takes for US to be with him.... The earth was with out the presence of God the moment Christ bore the sin of the humanity that the sky rumbled and the earth trembled.... HE raised Christ from the dead in 3 days while "human" once you killed another being have no power in bringing the dead person back to life... Hope this sheds some light...

There are many who ask/suggest here, "How can there be a God if there is so much pain and suffering in the world?" This is the same sort of double speak you are upset about. If one doesn't believe in God, then the world's ills cannot be attributed to Him. If one does believe in God, they are presumably much more likely to look around at themselves (and, unfortunately, probably far too often, at each other).

I think it's just a mob mentality. Arguing for the sake of disagreeing, as a means of individuality (b/c if they disagree, that means no one understands them).

For one thing, you are not God. Our ways and thoughts are not His ways and thoughts! In Job, God was testing Job's faith after satan was sure Job would not continue to love and follow God if Job went thru sufferings and trials. Satan was wrong. Job's faith endured and God blessed Job even more after all was said and done. We need not bring Almighty God down to our level. God bless

Because people didn't actually read your question, they just saw something about killing children and responded with their guts.
Don't take it personal.

As for God, it's the height of idolatry to hold Him to your standards.

Christian logic is like a chocolate teapot. Totally useless and a waste of space.

Don't fret about it. they like to change things to their own preference. One of the 10 commandments is "Thou shalt no kill" but look how that one has worked out. They seem to think it is "Thou shalt no kill those of thine own beliefs - everyone else is fair game".

You are, of course, entirely correct. That is not the worst atrocity in the old testament; can you imagine a man putting his daughters out to be raped by strangers?

God set standards that he's not supposed to live by.

And we think satan is the most evil being in history...
