When the "Gentiles" stated that polygamy was one of the "relics of barbarism," Brigham Young replied: "Yes, one of the relics of Adam, of Enoch, of Noah, of Abraham, of Isaac, of Jacob, of Moses, David, Solomon, the Prophets, of Jesus, and his Apostles" (vol. 11, p.328).

On another occasion Young said: "The Scripture says that He, the LORD, came walking in the Temple, with His train; I do not know who they were, unless His wives and children ..." (vol. 13, p.309).

Orson Pratt commented:

... it will be seen that the great Messiah who was the founder of the Christian religion, was a polygamist, ... the Messiah chose to ... by marrying many honorable wives himself, show to all future generations that he approbated the plurality of wives under the Christian dispensation....

We have now clearly shown that God the Father had a plurality of wives, one or more being in eternity, by whom He begat our spirits as well as the spirit of Jesus His first Born, and another being upon the earth by whom He begat the tabernacle of Jesus, as his only begotten in this world. We have also proved most clearly that the Son followed the example of his Father, and became the great Bridegroom to whom kings' daughters and many honorable wives were to be married. We have also proved that both God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ inherit their wives in eternity as well as in time; ... it would be so shocking to the modesty of the very pious ladies of Christendom to see Abraham and his wives, Jacob and his wives, Jesus and his honorable wives, all eating occasionally at the same table, ... If you do not want your morals corrupted, and your delicate ears shocked and your pious modesty put to the blush by the society of polygamists and their wives, do not venture near the New Earth; for polygamists will be honored there, and will be among the chief rulers in that Kingdom (The Seer, p.172).

If none but Gods will be permitted to multiply immortal children, it follows that each God must have one or more wives (p.158).

Last night they had a show on the history channel about Bible codes. But really I feel that if you think rationally about it the bible a book so edited and messed with from the beginning would have been corrupted too much to have any valid codes in it today.

Good morning!
I am a Catholic.......
My 7 year old son asked me who made God this morning. As a mother, I try so hard to be as honest as I can be. I answered him to the best of my ability. The my son proceeds to ask me who made God, where did He come from. To be honest, I wasn't sure what to say to him. I did tell him that he is who made everything. It is confusing and especially to a little boy. I wish I knew what to say to him but, I just don't know if anyone really knows this?? He's trully amazing to ask me such a question, and so early in the morning, none the less. :)

And I hope there are enough of you on so that I get a fair amount of answers.
I know that this type of question has been asked before, so if anyone wants to copy and paste an earlier answer, or simply post a link, that's fine.
My question is this:
What are the most prominent things that influenced you to become an atheist? Was it something you learned in science? If so, what was it? Was it a bad experience with the hypocrisy that seems to run rampant in the church? A bit of both? Something else?
And before anyone starts guessing WHY I'm asking this question, I'll just explain EXACTLY why:
Because I'm interested. That's it. I'm not assuming that any of you "believe" in something else, I'm not trying to convert, I'm just curious.
Perhaps if I have enough good answers, I'll post why I was an atheist. And if anyone's interested.
This is just an opportunity to share. That's all.

All religious and political leaders used it to show how it was okay and even encouraged to do so.

The eleventh level was called,"take good care of my beautiful baby.." My mom was on the sixth level, it was called "knowledge." She was akin to grouping the people around her by how much knowledge they seemed to have. While I was about loving. I wasn't very cool compared to everyone in my dream, but then I discovered I could rise to the ceiling at will! This made me fascinating to others.

I am not a Buddhist, how close was I to knowing something about that religion?
