I had a "Bible as Lit" teacher who taught that Job was an Assyrian poem that the Jews "borrowed" during their captivity in Babylon around 500 BC. She stated it was because in Job you had an appearance of the devil. The idea of both a "good" and a "bad" god was unknown to the Jews, but one of the fundamentals of the Assyrian religion. So obviously Job was not Jewish in origin, but Assyrian. The Jews had just added two chapters to the beginning and one to end that mentioned "Jehovah/Yahwah", but that everything else was Assyrian.

When I ask her then how come the devil only appears in the first two chapter (the Jewish part of the book) and not in any of the rest, she had no answer....

The Book of Job is not a proof text for the existence of the devil, it is a theological narrative intended to present and examine the question of the meaning of human suffering in terms of will and purposes of God.

The spirit creature who is the chief adversary of Jehovah God and of all who worship the true God is the refered to as the Devil because he is the foremost Slander of God. The name Satan means Resister. He is described as the original serpent in the book of revelation. The Bible is the chief source of evidence. There he is repeatedly referred to by name (Satan 52 times, Devil 33 times) Eyewitness testimony as to Satan's existence is also recorded there. Jesus repeatedly spoke of that wicked one by name.Luke 22:31,10:18; Matt. 25:41 Fact: When God created him he was not wicked! The bible states that "he did not stand fast in the truth"(John 8:44) So the Devil was at one time a worshiper of God himself but chose to rebel. He craved the worship that belonged to God and enticed the first couple to listen to him rather than to God. Thus by his course of action he made himself Satan, which means "adversary".

There is devil.

John 3:16[kjv] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

so when we believe in JESUS we have eternal life.JESUS lived a sinless life and gave up his life as a sacrifice so we can be sin free. Ask JESUS to come into your heart and forgive ur sins and cleanse ur past with his blood.

With a simple prayer like above u can be saved.JESUS loves u and wants u to be saved

If you're of the Christian faith and don't believe in the devil, that's a very fundamental problem...I mean, the whole premise is the battle between good and evil....God vs satan, right?
