For example, Italian lawyers can speak without moving their hands and often rehearse doing so.

I don't know about Italians, but us deaf people have a hard time talking without using our hands.

Quite true.. my mother speaks moving her hands even when she's driving!
I was told I didn't look Italian because I did'nt move my hands that much while speaking.

that's a stereotype..... often when stereotypes are made fun of they disapear if they are negative... I sometimes have fun with them being only part italian I use just one hand.... some cool sign language develops that way.
