I believe that most of us are born with a sane mind. Yet some people, due to social consequences ( like child abuse, rape, rejection, discrimination...), grow to become Monsters.
But that doesn't make this person "Evil".
It just makes him "someone with a mental dysfunction".
Why would someone like Hueng-Sui massacre 32 people, hadn't he been so phucked up in his "mind"?
Hence, my question is: is it accurate to judge people as GOOD and EVIL? Or should we rather say SANE and INSANE? Can we control our mind disorders?

Take Switzerland for example. Most Swiss are atheists, yet the crime rate there is very low.
I believe that a modern just society like that of Switzerland is more effective than a "prayer", for conquering "evil".

I believe I was misunderstood as to the purpose of my last question (not that I really care, to those of you who called me an uneducated hick). I find it very disturbing that in a country where we have freedom of religion, our government is slowly teaching our children that they have to hide their beliefs behind closed doors. I do believe that people should be allowed to practice their religion in public. Whatever that religion may be. I don't believe that any religion should be shoved down our throats. No, we are not allowed to practice Christianity in school, but they are going to build special places in the schools for children of other religions to be able to worship their "God". I wasn't talking about slavery or anything in that area. People need to stop living in the past & worry about now. Be thankful for where we are now, as a people, & stop whining about how we were treated in the past or we'll be right back where we started from. Only the true natives here have that right.

How do I deal with it? Especially if he is the assistant pastor at my church. He keeps making comments to me that try to crush my faith and really hurt me.

Those who reject God and believe only in science can explain only some of the mysteries of the Universe via science. Then why is it that they think that ALL of the mysteries are ultimately solveable? To put it another way, how can their faith in science be justified when science hasn't explained many phenomena any better than organized religion? (They seem to have as much faith in science as believers do in God!)

then send most of us he loves to hell.
Tired of you christians beating around the bush on this question... Just answer. It is in part a loaded question- yes- because you would not create something you are going to rip apart and kill then send good people who just didn't believe in your son to hell. Can anyone give me agood explanation why besides I don't understand God's plan.
We all know and understand his plan! and its silly.
Example this is God: "you are a wonderful caring sensitive unselfish human being, never did harm to anyone... but you're gonna have to go to hell because you truly didn't believe my son was the messiah. How awful is that - sorry guys....I digress....
Again the question is Why would God create the universe in the first place knowing he was going to destroy and kill it all then send most of us he loves to hell.

Why is there always the same speculation on this? Isn't this actually for once within the realm of science? Analyze other meaningful, sensible texts (ie Moby Dick, Koran) and do the statistical analysis.

was raised a roman catholic, but w/o learning the bible like the folks here in the south in which i live now. when my mother died, i searched all christian denominations..didn't like/agree w/any..so went to educate self with buddhism, muslim, judiasim..
I lean toward buddhism..but call self an atheist..but think my mathematician/scientist husband is more agnostic, but he doesn't want to be.

I get sick of how xians think atheists are devil worshipers or something, how ignorant.

or that we are non giving. sorry, but I donate and give quite often..i just do not seeing giving a tithe to a rapest priest, minister freak..so they can drive nice cars, kids go to private religious schools..etc...

Today my sister was over with my nephew. My nephew is 3 years old and, it being my birthday, they came over to give me a birthday card and spend time eating cake.

My sister and I had some time to chat when my stepdad and nephew were off playing outside.

My sisters exhusband, my nephews father, is a reborn Christian. Not only that but he is probably the slimiest person you'll ever meet. He's been in prison no less than 5 times for drug dealing. He's overdosed in the presence of my nephew at least once.

Well... he's allowed supervised visits with my nephew so he generally gets to go to church with the nephew.

My sister is fine with this so long as its only a couple hours a week, though she doesn't like church herself.

Only its gotten alot worse than a couple of hours a week. My nephew now talks about Jesus and god CONSTANTLY. To the point that its driving my sister nuts and she's ready to restrict the visits alot more.....

The proof and evidence of God is only revealed to those have a heart for God&want God in their lives. For those that dont want God,they recieve no evidence becuase God will only respond to those that do want Him&have faith in Him

Mark 4:12-That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

You will be continually reminded that to enter the highest degree of heaven (the "Celestial Kingdom"), you will have to go through the endowment ceremony in the temple and have your marriage to your Mormon spouse "sealed." (If your spouse is not Mormon, or if you are not married, you cannot enter the highest degree of heaven.) To get permission to have these ceremonies performed in the temple, you must prove yourself to be a faithful and obedient member of the church and do everything commanded by the church authorities, from the Prophet down to the local level. You will have to undergo a personal "worthiness" interview with the local church authorities inquiring into your private life and your religious and social activities.

From my own experience:
1-Morally, I used to be very judgemental, judging everyone from my own narrow religious perspective.
2-Politically, I shifted from moderatism to extreme liberalism.
I used to admire people who fought and died for their country. Now I see nationalism as evil, and war as unecessary.
3-Religiously, I used to admire nuns and monks. Now, I feel pity for them. I feel they are wasting their time, and holding themselves back from the pleasure of marriage.
4-Scientifically, I used to interpret sleep paralysis and disasters as demonic interventions. Homosexuality as a sin and abortion as a crime. Now I relate everything to science.
5-Living-wise, I wasn't fun at all. Always worrying wether I am being sinful or not, and wether this or that might upset God.
I didn't appreciate TIME much, thinking this life here was short and meaningless. Now I live for every minute.

All in all, more positive.
I feel I was so brainwashed.

What about you?
