Good question! Since they all have very similar beginnings and main beliefs, this could be the answer! I believe that all the true prophets were good people at heart, and had words of wisdom that could have all come from one source, just given to us by different prophets, so more people could be living Godly lives. It would be the interference of man that made them so devisive and seperatist.
On this topic, Newsweek had a special edition this winter all about the major prophets of all religions and beliefs, and it was very very interesting. It was unbiased, and nearly everyone of the prophets had really similar stories of Gods love, peace among men, unity, living up to certain standards, being devout to your beliefs, and following in a higher power's image. I have been searching and reading all kinds of religions, and am amazed how many of them are so similar.

Just like he gave us different languages to make it harder for us to communicate, this could also be a test of our true faith.

Why would God create a bunch of different (some pagan) religions? Why would He create religions in which the teachings are so different that some beliefs are in a totally different God (i.e. sometimes wrathful, rather than peace-loving)? It doesn't really make sense that there would be more than one true religion.

God has never nor will he ever create religion. As a Christian I am bothered by people all throughout the world getting caught up in religious customs, prayers and rules for spiritual cleansing and aquiring "holiness". From what I have read in the Bible God does not want us to create for ourselves a routine for praising Him. He wants us to have a personal and meaningful relationship with Him.

When we get caught up in customs and religious traditions it seems to distance ourselves from God rather then bringing us closer to Him. Praising God does not take place in a particular building, on a particular day, in any particular way; as long as we live our lives to honor God and acknowledge Him as the one true God and accept His son Jesus Christ into our hearts that is praise enough.

Not possible. There is one true God and he has never changed. Read the words of the prophets all are in agreement and the word is forever.

Doesn't make sense that God made up all relgions. One religion worships idols yet other religions condemn ido worship. So how could Gd have made up both to guide people?

THis is all just an opinion, we can't know for sure, but I will say it like it is fact because that is easier.

No because if he wants us to follow only him, why would he lead us astray. It says in the bible that people who do not believe in God will go to hell, and God obviously has unconditional love for us, so why would he try to get us into hell. Earth is where God and Satin meet. They each change the world to try and get us on their side, but you have to decide for yourself in the end. God does not put other religoins on the earth, but he knows that they will end up there because he knows that Satin will try to lure you into his traps. Once you are in heaven, or hell (wherever you end up) you will have only the beliefs of God/Satin. But for now, you have to try your best to filter out the false.

" I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life; no man can come to the Father except through me". -- Jesus Christ (Jn. 14:6)

" Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved". (Acts 4:12)

Religion is man made not God made. Jesus established a church (which He placed into Peter's hands), not a religion, and that church is the Catholic Church
