Well for one he's a German.
Remember the sign in my mother's kitchen:
( she was German by the way )
Sign 1: You can always tell a German, but you can't tell them much.
Sign 2: A grumpy German is a Sour Kraut.
The Pope has always been a controversial person ever since the RCC dreampt up the office and title. And no Peter wasn't the first Pope.
Like in 1870 when the Pope said that anything he taught was infallible.
From then on it was clear that the RCC was becoming a false religion, however Martin Luther knew its was false 350 years before.

The Pope has lost it although I don't think he'd be so dumb as to hire Dubya's writers; some religions/groups already hate his guts.
