i´m german, born & raised catholic, now i became member of Curch of god in christ on our army base in my hometown. which i really enjoy. but there is one thing that i and pretty much the rest of the german counterpart can just not understand. mostly all religions tell you to not drink wine or alcohol in general. but now catholics (i can only tell about german catholics here) drink wine to every communion service, the pope drinks wine and look at the monchs, since hunderts of years they brew the best german beer. Now we all know, they are people of god.

So are they being wrong in the eyes of other religions just because the dont despite wine or beer?? (im not talking about getting drunk!!)

All those undervalued women at the mercy of their no-good and often female hating and uncaring fathers, brothers and husbands, not to mention Jesus who had as little to do with women as he could manage.

i think i have answered about 20 questions now on "why are atheists in the R&S section?"
these questions seem to imply that
1)no God -no religion...which is extremely rude considering that Buddhism is atheistic
2)if a person doesn't believe in the BIBLE God,s/he's an "atheist" no matter what other God they might believe in.....

anyone else getting tired of these whiny questions ?

What could the higher reality of man possibly be that it would be "...beyond a man's power to describe in words"?

What is the nature and substance of the Mysteries of God which Paul said he was "...not allowed to tell" others, and which he said that baptized and commited believers would view these Mysteries as "foolishness"?

And, why would Paul warn baptized and commited believers of the faith that if they think they know, they "...know nothing yet as they ought to know"?

Wouldn't your demographic qualify for some sort of Federal protection?

There's only 12 or 13 of you.

What would happen to the "Christian Nation" nonsense then?

I feel that Christians show a lot of hatred and what not towards Gays and it saddens me. They basically turn their backs to them or shove a Bible in their face and tell them "Save yourself from this sinful life!" Ever stop to think that Gays have the same feelings and emotions we do? They are going to live their life. You can't "fix" them because they don't need fixing. I have many gay friends who attend churches that accept them and don't try to change them into something they're not. Why can't most churches do that? Why so much hatred? Do you honestly think they'll be denied a place in heaven because they weren't attracted to the opposite sex? Every stop to think that most gays are BORN gay? (It's been proven Scientificly) I myself am not gay, but I have many gay friends and it angers me to see Christans and other religions be so cold and cruel towards them.

Why are atheists hanging out in the Religious & Spiritual Section? Aren't atheists by definition operating in life without a religion? What do they gain by lingering in a forum that engages discussion about religion and spiritual life?

This question has been asked before. Just trying to gauge a thoughtful, credible, mature, defensible answer.

What did you think of scientology? I'm one of these people who never form an opinion unless I know the facts.
I've read some scientology material and didn't agree with what it said, but everyone should be free to believe what they want.

However, the actions of the scientologists in the Panorama programme went way beyond normal behaviour. I dont care what they believe in... it's the whole recruiting vunerable people that I have an issue with. I also didn't like how they constantly invaded the BBCs space - the toilet scene was unbelievable.
They certainly didn't help their cause with their way over the top actions.

I'm loathed to see any movies with these scientology celebs as my money will end up in cults like this.

If we believe in Heaven or Hell, we would have to believe that everyone has either an everlasting price or punishment, according to their actions in life. On the other hand, if you believe in reencarnation, you believe that according to your actions, you have a better or worse existence in your future lives in the degree of your actions.

Which one would be best to believe in so that we could live our lives as we should?

The question was brought up that in order to be political churches should pay taxes.. I say if this would free us up to run Christian politicians and campaign for Christian laws, then we should go for it.. Paying a few taxes would not hurt us as God blesses his children and then we would be free to say whatever we wanted from the pulpit without worrying about our tax exempt status.. What do you think.. USA a christian nation.

A belief may be understood and accepted by some as if it were fact, even in the absence of verifiable fact. Spiritual beliefs in "god" "after-death life" and "creation" are all precisely in this category - they are all unproven theories.

Shouldn't we be talking about the theory of "God's existence" rather than using the words "belief" and "faith"? Wouldn't it be more accurate to discuss the theory of after-life rather than faith or belief in after-life?

I know it's a small point, but there is a difference of connotation involved. "Belief and faith" tend to suggest that there is no question yet to be resolved while "theory" tends to invite the challenge of questions.

Your thoughts please:

Jesus said we could do what he did and that we would do greater things than he did. Gnostics believed this and followed it. all gnostics men and women did work in the church and served with equality. there for were hereitics to the teachings of other denominations and the church killed them.

I'm not talking about someone who was simply living a moral, good life - which I respect, and wish more people were like. I'm talking about a nutty religious person that constantly quoted scripture and had a holier-than-thou attitude all the time. Anybody?

I'm not going to wast my time trying to explane something to someone thats not going to listen anyway.
But if you want to know , its not that hard to find the truth. And maybe the easyest way for you is to just get a holy bible that has what Jesus said prented in red and just read the red parts. If you read it over a few times you'll see that what it takes to be a christian is not what Catholics teach.
For the rest of you that don't like what I said , you could do that too.
I DIDEN"T SAY that everybody that reads the HOLY BIBLE is a christian ,DUHH..
There are alot of books that say ( this is the way ) and I've read some of them and found that they weren't true eather. Acording to what Jesus said , was ,I'm suposed to spread the word about Jesus . So if you want a verse heres one to start with. Acts 1:8 . There are plenty of places that Jesus said ,DON"T BE DECIEVED. That means Check it out for yourself.
This is not a question, this is a followup.
Im looking for the truh

in order to retain their tax exempt status, why are so many Christians convinced that this is a Christian Nation?

I think the Pastors/Priests are crossing the line in their sermons. If this is so, they need to have their tax exempt status revoked. This is the law of the land and if they cannot respect it, then they should pay the consequences AND the taxes.
